This really clicked with me. Reminds me of my favorite Bruce Lee quote. β€œFear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

I had stopped drawing after having kids and getting married, but I had found your channel a few years ago and followed along with you drawing an iguana I fell in love with art all over again. Thank you so much for that! Now I'm back drawing on a daily basis.

Wow. I spent 29 years of my 36 year old life striving for the fancy and advanced things in music. I always thought I was advanced but I didn’t know the fundamentals well at all. I have to accept that there’s no shame in doing the basics well. Thank you!

These are really great tips. I have a book from 1911 called On the Laws of Japanese Painting and it documents how Japanese painters would drill the fundamentals until they were effortless. They would practice the same brush stroke or repaint the same picture over and over again until it was perfect, capturing the essence of the subject. I notice a lot of artists who practice gesture drawing move on quickly from one subject to another and never really learn from their mistakes. They practice for months and get frustrated they aren't improving, when really they need to focus on one simple thing and get good at it before moving on.
  • I have had watch bunch of videos related to art but you really give me the confident to pick up the pen and let's just do it.. Thanks ❀

  • @kingsonbooka303
Great points! It’s easy to get lost in all the tangles of wanting to do and learn everything there is to learn about all the multitudes of art and you’re right forget about it and choose one! That takes a lot of discipline! It reminds me of the Bruce Lee quote I’m paraphrasing but β€œdon’t fear the man that practices 1000 kicks one time fear the man that practices 1 kick 1000 times” πŸ’―πŸ”₯
  • Thanks for helping us remember why we started in the first place. Your artwork and process is gorgeous, more please.
