The 90s and early 2000’s had some of the best paint schemes

5:17 It was my day! I put that Lowes Chevrolet on the pole at Daytona before it was cool
  • Man Ken Squire was so good at building the tension leading up to the start he got you in the mind set that you were about to watch the most unpredictable event ever, it was masterful

this race got me into nascar 25 years ago…my parents were crazy for the 3 and I was rooting for their nemesis (out of 10 year old spite-I also rooted for the Cowboys back then but grew out of that quick, go Birds) Gordon staying on the lead lap after pitting and then swooping in at the end to take it cemented my love for this sport…I watched as many races as I could from then on until Jeff retired…nascar needs to end the “chase” so we can get back to real racing.

I remember going and seeing Gordon's winning car from 1999 I think it was. The amount of bugs on the car was amazing, it looked like he had a black front end but it was just all bugs. You would think after a few laps all the bugs would be dead but I guess they just keep flying back onto the track. Jeff probably led alot of laps that year which would have exposed his car to more bugs haha.

it's almost like Dale Sr heard them talking about his DAYTONA DEBACLES and thought "right let's see if we can top that"

I'm never gonna forget this race, especially when Dale flipped!
  • I been following NASCAR since 1995 and I absolutely still am in love with this sport!!

2:35:00 "Get the hell outta my race car." Earnhardt was dead set on getting that (now) pile of junk across the finish line. That grit right there is why so many believe him to be the greatest.

2:34:51-2:35:38: I can't help but laugh at this sequence of events, or specifically the utter confusion/shock that people watching it must have felt. "Hold on a minute, where's Dale on that list? We just saw him flip over...WAIT HE'S STILL GOING?!?!" Dale Earnhardt was an absolute legend.

never been into racing before but im having fun watching these old races. thank you for the upload
  • A bit of foreshadowing for Dale's final wreck. Almost the same instance where he got turned into the wall
  • This was the first ever Daytona 500 I recorded!  I think the first race too.  I would so have loved a green/white/checkered at the end of this one.......Amazing Earnhardt got his car back out on the track after the flip.  This one will always be special to me, but the 1998 race had the happy ending.
