  • Short note... Before you apply all transforms to the wheels, add the empties first
  • I'm really enjoying learning more about Blender, this was a great quick video. thanks! I did play around with the implementation just a little and found a way to fix one inaccuracy. This rig is lacking one important part in the suspension, the steering knuckle at each wheel. I wonder if the rigacar has an object for this, it likely does and this tutorial isn't that in depth. but even without any extra support from rigacar, I improved the realism regarding the caliper. the caliper should not rotate with the wheel of course, but it should steer with the wheel. also, the caliper should not move with the body, it should move with the steering knuckle, so basically it should move with the wheel, rotate with it on around the Z axis, but not rotate about the X. I accomplished that this way: unparent the caliper from the main body (reposition it back to where it was if necessary apply the caliper's rotation (ctrl+A, select rotation) under the constraints tab, add a copy location constraint, leave all 3 axes selected, and select the plain axis of that wheel as the target. the caliper will now follow that wheel and stay in position, it will follow that wheel's location, not the body. so if the suspension moves, the caliper stays where it should. --the next steps only need to be done on wheels that steer, so front wheels on almost all vehicles) next, select the plain axis of that wheel and move the cursor to it (shift+s->cursor to selected) now select the caliper again and set its origin do the 3d cursor (object->set origin->origin to 3d cursor) now the caliper will rotate about the same axis as the wheel when rotated next add a copy rotation constraint to the caliper, select the same wheel's plain axis as the target, and in the properties next to where it says axis, select only Z. now, when the wheels steer, the caliper rotates along with the steering wheels, rotates about the center of rotation of the wheel as a whole (so it stays in the proper position vs the brake disc), and moves along with the wheel and not the vehicle's body...but does NOT rotate when the wheel rotate. It just adds that one nice finishing touch! I assume rigacar has a feature built in to accomplish the above...if someone knows please share! also, as mentioned in another comment, that thing behind the wheel is the brake disc or rotor. it actually should rotate along with the wheel, should your car model have cross drilled, slotted, multi-piece etc discs, you should see the features of the brake disc rotate along with the wheel when the car moves.
  • @lugiakane470
im currently involved in a development team for a new game im trying to figure out how to rig tank tracks as you showed 4 wheels how would i do that to tank track treads only
  • @yupriando2420
Thanks man. after many videos i watch, this video is work for me
  • I seem to be getting an error where ground sensors are not found. Any suggestions on how to solve that?
  • @ 4:50 - you can achieve the same selection by simply clicking the rim, the tire, and then the empty axis without having to hide and unhide.
  • Thanks a lot, rarely you find thngs that work right on the very first try👍🙌
  • @rv.13
    I can't generate🙂🙂
  • @Vector123
why are the tires on models i download are all like one group/mesh, and can't be ungrouped? is it the issue with model or i need to do something?
  • Hey! I was trying to rig a car, but whenever I click Generate, the wheels dissapear and the car just floats there with no rig. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Could it be that the car dosen't have brake calipers?
  • @vfxsan3d
bro in new Blender 3.3 rigacar 7.1 addon the bake car steering and bake wheels rotation is not working can you make video on this........?????
  • @coldenv_IG
Very Clear. Thank you very much helped a lot bro.
  • @gav1685
It gives me an error message when I try to generate it and I end up with armatures and the car does not move or function correctly. Any idea how to fix this?
  • @CGcelestial
Btw since you said in the video you don't know what the part is, the part next to the calipers is called a brake disc :)
  • this has pushed me into a twoo week long blender skillz session Actually still haven't found out how can I make the rotors and calipers follow yaw and heave of the wheels in other words, make them bounce and turn
