Drinker's Chasers - Jon Favreau Isn't Going To Save Star Wars

Published 2024-01-15
The recent news that Jon Favreau is returning to direct a Mandalorian Star Wars movie was met with resounding indifference from most of us. In this clip, we outline why the project has little chance of success under the current regime at Lucasfilm.

  • Star Wars is still being held hostage by the same people that ruined it. As long as that remains true, no one could possibly save it

It's a blatant reminder of one of the biggest mistakes they made in The Mandalorian: having Grogu go back to Mando rather than train with Luke Skywalker.

The funny thing is , they put names people like in hopes those names attract older fans back, but the problem is you bring people WITHOUT creative control. It's useless to bring anyone if you won't let them do their thing.

I would be more excited for a Jar Jar movie made by anyone else than I would any Star Wars movie made by Disney!

I used to work in the film industry and filmed next to to the studio stage for The Rise of Skywalker a few years back. Story was that production forced the extras to work hours on end without a break. It takes ages to take off the Stormtrooper suits, so requests to have a toilet break were ignored. One poor Stormtrooper couldn't hold it and went number 2 in his red suit. Costume department had to hose him and the suit down. It's an nice little anecdote to show how bad things were starting to go.

“Somehow Jon Favreau returned.” - Bob Iger “I am all the Star Wars!” - Jon Favreau “And I am all the Disney.” - Dave Filoni

No one can save Star Wars. No one can pixar. No one can save marvel. No one can save Disney. Because they dont want to be saved

"Let Star Wars die, kill it if you have to." - Kylo Ren.

Jon Favreau already dropped the ball with The Mandalorian Season 3 by making Din Djarin a sidekick of Bo Katan and sidelined from being a main character of his own show.

I walked out of watching The Last Jedi at the cinema and swore never to watch Star Wars again. And I haven’t. Any Disney Star Wars = Bobbins.

How many times has Star Wars been "saved" now because of X thing? It's really sad how others keep saying that. It's like a person trapped in a desert telling themselves "over the next sand dune there will be water."

If Jon was actually in charge and had nobody else behind the scenes then I would be excited for this movie. Unfortunately he's not

It’s weird, I remember back in 2019 how Rise Of Skywalker had been the one thing to kill Star Wars and then The Mandalorian brought some of the magic back for a while

The only way to get the Mandalorian back on track would be for the character actually to go back to bounty hunting and actually show some of the New Republic full of crooks and ruthless individuals as well. Get away from baby Yoda and him fighting storm troopers and like The Man With No Name go after bounties. But they'll never do that. Doesn't fit the Disney M.O. that's why it would work.

This is definitely damage control, if there's no positive "buzz" they'll just drop the project 😂
  • They keep doubling down on what’s ruining them financially. But the most offensive thing is that they’re shooting on digital, or super diffusing the lighting to the point everything is underexposed. Mix that with awful and over reliance on cgi and you get absolute sh!t

The discussion about the director's authority reminds me of Kevin Smith talking about his experiences directing an episode of the Flash. He wasn't brought in to turn the episode into a Kevin Smith-style product, but essentially to sit in his chair, yell "action" and "cut," and let everyone else do their jobs.
  • @bluemutt9964
Favreau has the talent that people all give to Filoni, its unfortunate he was probably forced by the studio to steer away from his vision. We can't have someone with one coherent vision nowadays without a committee's approval can we
  • @LN-Lifer
Disney doesn't really have to micromanage directors like JF They just have to put in a bunch of dei rules at the top that must be adhered to. They don't have to be right there on site...they castrate the product from the start
  • @voodjin
If you think The Mandalorian and Grogu will be bad, wait until the Sequel The Mandalorian and Grogu and Asoka gets released..
