so the studio actually explained why it wasn't licensed worldwide. since it's an anime original, with no other media or merch for it, that came beforehand, completely new, it's often seen as a risk by these streaming services since they got no clue if it will be popular. so the studio didn't feel like they could / couldn't charge big numbers for it to companies like Crunchyroll. They also said that since it's an anime original, a season 2 will depend on the merch sales. Who knows, with how popular the show is, they might license it in the future, and will be able to charge more money for it.

i love that this is the va’s first project because they are real musicians that learned to va for this project, and nina’s va has an incredible voice at 16 🙏

It still made it to Anime Trending's 1st place last week without having official subs! I'll continue rooting for Nina the Gremlin and her crew :goat-turquoise-white-horns:

Shout out to Jukki Hanada, the lead writer of GBC who also worked on Love Live! Sunshine and A place further than the Universe

If I can sum this series in one word, it would be raw (literally and figuratively). All these girls are dealing with issues constantly, so it feels cathartic when they release their feelings through music.

Girls Band Cry is honestly of the best anime this season
  • @notasadist1914
There's currently only 3 countries outside of Japan that have the GBC license and one of the Recent countries being Indonesia with Official Toei ENGLISH SUBS. Update: 4 countries now

It had a pretty bad situation and start this season, but Girls Band Cry managed to achieve the greatness it deserved and its incredible that it was all pulled off by the fans that managed to watch it, as well as the team behind the creation of GBC, and the actual band formed for this anime, TogeToge. They are great VA's. I hope this anime gets more popular later, preferably sooner.

This type of higher fps 3D anime style has been used quite a bit already in videogame animations. I've noticed this especially in chinese gacha games (for example Arknights, HI3 and PGR cinematics). I honestly always wondered when it would bleed into the Japanese animation industry, and I'm glad to see GBC being one of the first to use it fully. I hope CGI will continue to be used more as an alternative style rather than the "budget saving" CGI dragons/monsters.

It's also worth mentioning that the script and series composition is being done by Jukki Hanada, the same guy behind A Place Further than the Universe, Sound Euphonium, and a decent amount of Love Live.

Now they have official license for 4 countries outside Japan, AFAIK - South Korea - France - Indonesia - Thailand (just announce couple days ago and will release in July)

As someone who grew up in the age of torrents it has been incredibly disheartening to see so many embrace streaming instead. I can't get too mad about the legal streaming sites, but the illegal ones are terrible. Torrents are about community; streaming is about making money.
  • @yrosan
Worst of all is that the anime IS licenced. In FRANCE. What kind of deal were the French able to accept that American companies couldn't is really beyond comprehension.
  • @micryt.
My best guess why no streaming service licensed it is music. Since this is a special case of a real-life band being created with anime from the beginning there has to be some weird licencing wall stopping anyone from picking it up. I may be wrong, it's just my best guess.

There is a petition "Urge Streamers to license 2024 Anime 'Girls Band Cry' " for asking toei to license girls band cry on Crunchyroll, guys please sign for it, we should let this good anime be know by the world

Thank you for talking about this show. It's spectacular. The direction is just incredible and every time Black and Red particles come off the MC I start to well up. I mean i haven't seen it... but also SobsPlease is doing such a great job.

Thank you for recommending this show! It slipped under my radar. When you said it was directed by the director of LL Sunshine, one of my favorite anime of all time, I was even more hyped. Keep up the good work!
