ISS (World War 3, Radiation Cure, and Paranoia in Space) EXPLAINED

Published 2024-01-26
Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained, and as requested, today we’re diving into the recently released sci-fi thriller, ISS. Starring Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, John Gallagher Jr., Masha Mashkova, Costa Ronin, and Pilou Asbæk - we follow astronauts and cosmonauts from America and Russia that find their fates intertwined and tested. As World War III erupts on Earth, the tension escalates aboard the space station, transforming it into a microcosm of the planet below.

The sci-fi thriller, celebrated for iconic films like "Alien," "Gravity," and "The Martian," which combine the mystery of the cosmos with human drama (set against a backdrop of impressive special effects and intelligent scripts) tends to thrive on the portrayal of space as an uncontrollable constant, a vast expanse where conflict and mission-driven narratives intertwine. And "I.S.S.," the first sci-fi release of 2024, enters the genre, offering a new perspective by asking, what if the central conflict is entirely beyond the characters' control?

I can't think of a group of people less likely to fall into anarchy than Astronauts.
  • @MrYuck-ec5do
The studio dumped it in January and barely advertised. Told me what I needed to know before even considering to watch this one.
  • @grapeshot
I'm going to give it a watch I still think the movie Sunshine is underrated.
  • @Hawk7886
I want to give this movie a shot but I have a feeling it'll turn out to be extremely obnoxious just with the premise. The ISS has no tactical purpose, it's just a science platform. If superpower countries were attacked, the ISS would just be abandoned and couldn't be resupplied. I guess it's all they could do to avoid the realistic approach where a bunch of scientists get cut off and slowly starve until the platform eventually runs out of air and fuel and eventually deorbits itself, or they collectively decide to do it manually.

Wouldnt it been funny if between the Russians and Americans there was just a single guy from like new Zealand and the whole time each side is trying to convince him to betray the others or he just stays in the background chilling cuz he dosnt have a dog in the game
  • @rellett1
it makes no sense if the iss was a weapon platform, i could understand wanting control but both country's are nuked so why fight each over it makes no sense.
  • @Exar_Kun
They weren’t nuked, the earth was attacked by a bug meteorite and the movie is trying to cover it up. “Would you like to know more?”
  • @drgirlfriend211
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see you do some explorations of the Expanse!!!!
  • @isaaclopez8472
I can't imagine of a worse place to be during a nuclear war than in space even without any threat just to be there stuck watching the world burn
  • @Harrkin
@FilmComicsExplained Wow I missed this, got to give it a watch. Kind of reminds me of the astro/cosmonauts in the WWZ book that had to somehow survive and make it back down to Earth. They were very lucky to have not been completely forgotten about in that book; I wonder how this movie will end. (Also been watching your channel for years, started with the 28 Days Later graphic novel series you did (would also be really cool to see more stuff like that again :o ) Cheers bro!

Nothing beats seeing another notification for your channel. Always great content with such in depth analysis. Cheers legend

I know it's going to have a different theme but I can't help but get Cloverfield Paradox vibes.
  • @dsadik666
I don't see the point of countries fighting over the space station during a nuclear war/winter.
  • @carlosj587
I love your channel and your videos. After 7 years of watching your videos, this was the first time i lost track and found hard to grasp what the hell was going on. Mind you cloverfield paradox was explained seamlessly. Perhaps this was a shorter and quicker pace review. But i rarely find myself venturing to another channel to see a review from where i first checked yours out on. Never the less thanks for sharing, if it wasnt for you i would've never known this movie existed.

Whether it's climate change, aliens, technological malfunctions, or other humans, space stations suck to be on.😱
  • @Name-ot3xw
Wonder if the Soyuz still comes with a survival pistol in its kit.
  • This movie is an amazing concept, but it wasn't handled by the best of writers/directors.
