Promised myself I would make this video after crossing the finish line of IRONMAN Tallinn 2020 - Here goes! Tried to pack it with as much information and lessons learned about the pre race, race and post analysis. Also complete gear list, nutrition strategy and mindset tips. It is basically the video I, as an average age group triathlon noob, would have wanted to see, to avoid making mistakes (like not preparing for the cold) and how to manage when things don't go as planned! Being able to adapt and change plan during such a big event is a big lesson I learned on race day, and that I will prepare for more in the build to the next event. Oh and for sure more vegan gummy bears next time lol!
Hope you get some value out of it and it gets you stoked for your next race : )

Great vid Patrick. Exactly the kind of honest and frank insight of the reality of triathlon races. I even got emotional at one point! Really helpful for me as a beginner looking towards my first ever Sprint Triathlon in April. Well done to you and your family!!
  • @emmanuellamare
First of all congrats for being successfull in this journey which seems to be such an achievment. Also, wanted to thank you a lot for your work on creating this very good video and sharing with lot of authenticity your story. You're helping and inspiring so much guys like me that are starting their journey targeting to be Ironman (70.3 actually) one day. Thanks a lot and wish you lot of success in your further projects Patrick. Cheers!

Congratulations on your first Ironman!!! This is an amazing video, great advice. I’m training for an Ironman as well but never did I even think about these problems that could arise during the day of. This helps so much to prepare mentally and physically. Thank you I loved the video
  • Really enjoyed your explanations and video. Congrats to you as racing the Ironman is the cherry on the cake. All the hard work is done during the training and not having your family and friends at the race can make it a whole different experience. Love your attitude and will apply it during my first Ironman as well. Keep it up. Cheers, Sydney

So inspirational and puts IM racing into perspective. I’m doing IM Cairns in June and this is hugely encouraging.

Found your channel yesterday and can't stop watching your videos! I'm doing my first Sprint triathlon in May and I am finding your videos so helpful! Thank you!
  • @PhilipShaw1
Running my first IM in august. I love your attitude. Especially the bit about “this was the race I needed to have”. Thank you for sharing it !!
  • Hi Patrick, this is a great recap loaded with humble insights, you clearly caught the humble spirit of the Ironman. I am preparing for Tallinn this year, 11h30 was my last time two years ago and I target the same progress in the run...Very motivating to see this kind of feedback. Thank you
  • Wonderful video and congrats. I did Copenhagen IM a year ago, my first, and your video was a vivid memory of my journey.
  • @Dinckelburg
Ciao Patrick, I'm enjoying your content , it's great to hear first hand about these types of events.
  • Congrats on completing ironman!! Love the super honest approach, feel i've gained a deeper understanding of what ironman should be all about, more from your video than a lot of other videos combined. The part about ironman being more about the experience and journey really resonated with me. As you said, it is not about the time you finish in, more about learning about yourself and personal growth (as well as survival!). Hope to complete my first marathon this year followed by an ironman next year, can't wait for my own journey like this! All the best mate, from Leeds UK.
  • @dafartingman

  • @juanpablodt
Awesome video! I'm going to do my first Ironman (and first triathlon) in 6 weeks. This was very inspirational. Thank you!
  • Hi Patrick, great video thank you for sharing your experience, I think you did a great time under testing circumstances. I’ve just signed up for IM Estonia 2022 (Ironman no. 4 for me) so got some hard training ahead, but very excited! 😃
  • Well done, congrats. A very helpful video to those of us about to do our first in 2021. I learned a lot from this. Very genuine!
  • Videos awesome well done loads of information and a great look at an iron man for a complete beginner very inspiring 👏🏾
  • @Maritime007
Great recap. I've completed two full distance races now. You learn a lot about yourself during the race. For some it's enough to do one and done. For others it leads to a desire to try to figure out how you can squeeze a little more out of yourself to do even better. Cheers on your great result under challenging conditions.
