5 crazy facts about the Russian War in Ukraine

War in Ukraine series is my own experience and perspective on this horrific and cruel war, as someone who’s lived in both Ukraine and the US, and spent a lot of time in Russia.
Disclaimer: In these series, I won’t be able to include video footage confirming everything I’m saying or all the resources because that would take me another week of editing and time is crucial now. You might hear a lot of facts you’ve never heard before so please make sure to do your own research. I made a decision to post this video raw as soon as possible with this disclaimer.
In this video I’d like to share some quite fascinating facts about this war which in my opinion could be the reasons for the higher than usual attention since this is the war of dictatorship against democracy and freedom, and consequences of it will be worldwide. To quote our president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, “This war is for all the world':
1. People. Ukrainian and Russian people have been brothers and sisters for a very long time, during the USSR people were spread out and when Russia and Ukraine became independent countries they stayed where they were, constantly traveling between the two to visit family and loved ones. Practically every Ukrainian has family or friends in Russia. I always thought of us as the same people, and having spent many years between the two countries, I didn’t even mind when people thought I was from Russia. I used to have a Russian nesting doll burlesque act Matryoshka that I performed often and was known for here in the US. Of course, I have retired it now. I always used to say “We are the same people, it’s just politics that are trying to divide us”. I don’t know if I can say that anymore.
2. Proximity and Shock.Imagine you live a peaceful life in Canada, and wake up at 5am one morning because US is throwing bombs on you. Or even you live in the US, and the neighboring state starts bombing you. That’s how it felt. It’s people killing their own people because one person couldn’t get enough after 22 years of dictatorship.
3. Trump. To my US friends: Remember Trump? Imagine having trump as your president for 22 years.
4. Brainwash. I am sickened and horrified to see how many people are cheering for this war! And that is because of the informational war I will talk about further, started by Putin and his massive propaganda machine in 2014. If you never lived under putin’s regime especially as a young person, you probably have little to no idea of what that’s like and I will touch on some of that today.
5. Losses. This is the biggest war since the WW2 in Europe and so far proves to be one pf the deadliest in modern history.
