With the introduction of the Canon EOS R1 and R5 Mark II that both have the digic accelerator processor, Canon's Auto Focus is the best in the industry. I know some people will say, "how can you make such claims?". Simple, I've used every single camera Canon, Nikon and Sony have put out in the last decade. I've used them all in the real world from World Series's to photographing friends and family, I know.
Canon's Dual Pixel AF was already the best in the industry, with Sony's a9 III being the closest to matching AF quality. Now with the two new cameras, Canon has gone beyond what Nikon or Sony has done in the AF world. Once again, let me reiterate, ALL Mirrorless Cameras have better auto focus then their DSLR predecessor.

As a Nikon Z9 owner I have to say that this Canon autofocus tech is astounding! That also said, I am over the moon happy with my Z9 autofocus. I kinda feel like I have a 2020 sports car and the new R1/R5 is a 2025 sports cars. Both are awesome.

The continual tech advances happening in the camera and lens world is crazy exciting. Compared to back in the days of shooting a Nikon F4 and F5, todays cameras are absolutely amazing!

Been waiting a looooong time for Canon to take the next step forward from Dual Pixel autofocus. Great to see their tech pushing forward and I’m excited to see the rest of the manufacturers answer the call!

I love my R5M1. I don't see too much of a reason to buy/upgrade to the new R5 but I am impressed with the evolution of the autofocus tech, and you're right. All this new autofocus technology will allow the professional photographer to capture those shots that prior they would have missed. Excellent video.

Ya know what, I've been looking to upgrade from my 90D, I think it's time to pull the trigger and get an R5 Mk.2. The autofocus isn't like bad on the 90D, but this makes it look like I'm in the stoneage.

The RF 400mm 2.8 and 600 4 come with dual AF motors but the R5 mk i only has enough battery to power one of the motors. The R3 does have the power to utilize both motors so my questions are: does the R5 mk ii have the power to use both motors and when you compare AF speed using these lenses is the R3 noticeably faster then the R5 mk i?

This is the best explanation I've seen so far of the new AF system. Until seeing this, I was a bit lukewarm about both of these cameras. For motorsports, the pre-capture combined with subject tracking would be amazing.

You're the first reviewer I've seen to point out the Wow factor in these new cameras. Everyone else seems slightly disappointed. I'd very much like to see this AF in a substantially upgraded R7. What do you think the future of the R3 will be?

Shooting sports at f1.2 Insanity. I remember with 5D mkii you get 3 frames out of 10 in focus taking pictures of people's portraits at f1.2 😂

As a Z8 owner that Canon autofocus is outstanding. I have to say though, the Z8 blows me away.
