Spilling all the glitches, confusing features and disappointments I've come up against whilst playing the Sims 4 For Rent and why I've already stopped playing, less than 30 days after the expansion pack's release!

I'd love to know if you've had any of these, or other glitches whilst playing in the comments below! It would be great to create a list of everything to bring attention to the issues and bring to the sims team, to hopefully get them addressed in future updates!

They should NOT need to fix things after release. These games should be thoroughly play tested and fixed before launch. All games should. These day 1 patches and hot fixes should be the exception not the standard.
  • @theminisimmer
What infuriates me is that an update came out today and NONE of them have been fixed today. Two updates later and none of these bugs have been fixed! I'm not touching my game until they do.

i work in software testing. for testing we are given a list of tasks to excute to ensure the systems work in all conditions. there really isn't any excuse for a game from a company this large and profitable to not have been thoroughly tested. (especially with the money they make).
  • For Rent has just corrupted my building save with the infinite blue loading screen as well. Uninstalling it, probably to never reinstall again, since the rental owning component seems to have been coded irresponsibly from the very foundation, and I don’t trust the developers to fix it, as they have built the entire pack on this faulty feature and it would cost them a lot to properly rework it. I was in a position to waste my $40, but I feel sorry for people who weren’t, and got their saves destroyed to add to the injury.

This video was so well made and it really shows how little thought went into the For Rent pack. It's so sad how EA gets aways with things like that, year after year. I had so many issues ater the For Rent update! I had an eternal loading screen, the game was so slow and I the game crashed so many times that I just gave up and don't play it again.
  • @thelostheroes1
I disabled that pack 1 week after release when it corrupted the save file I was building. I never used the cheat to have more units. I wish I never bought it (at least until it's fixed, if ever).

Good video. No one seems to have spoken about the glitch I am experiencing of having Seasons EP vendors not going to their booths once a For Rent lot is placed in the area. All of the spawn able items end up in the sky (the food booths, the skating rinks, even the frog logs and plants that spawn). I have tested this in Newcrest where there is a monkey bar park. If you place residential lots you have no issue, but the moment you place a rental residential everything instantly goes up in the air into the sky and the vendor npc's are stuck on the street. You cannot fix the glitch after it happens. 😒

My game has been buggy since For Rent too.. I never had any lag or crashing at all before installing that pack 😮‍💨 I'm really sorry you're experiencing so many issues with your save, I hope a patch fix will allow you to recover your progress 😔

I tried to get around the unjust angry relationship by having a Sim tenant move out of the apartment on their own. Turns out they take the furniture with them, it doesn’t even ask if you want to sell it, it just removes it from the rental.
  • @dayumie8349
One glitch I keep having is that it won't show that I own rentals when I load into households that do in fact own rentals, and to get it to show I have to go in and out of build mode and okay thats a quick fix but it's REALLY annoying!!!
  • @Yuukire
I'm so so glad I didn't buy for rent . I was debating it but then EA has a nice sale going on so I bought the pets bundle and snowy escape for the same price as for rent is right now so, I'm very happy with that decision

I thankfully didn’t pick up this pack sense it didn’t interest me much, but my heart breaks for my mutuals and fellow simmers who have had issues with this pack and even lost save files because of it. Might just go ahead and pick up horse ranch instead then wait for the cas kits coming out 😅
  • @AndysPlaying
I thankfully haven’t had any glitches that corrupt the game, but I do have many others than do the gameplay impossible sometimes, like sims just standing and not following orders. They really need to sort this out before any other pack.
  • @tibbinova
Its sad having to wait for popular modders to add features to make a EP work better. I'm still waiting to see what the modders come up with. Simrealist, MCCC, TwistedMexi, & Littlemssam mods are some of my top favs.

Commenting so you get more views. This video is made very well. All of your points are not only valid but actively being displayed as you explain them. This is exactly why I didn’t get this pack. The last pack I got was Growing Together. The glitching that has occurred in my game since then has made me refuse to get any more new packs. The idea of For Rent is good. Why do they keep releasing faulty products?
  • @Nothing-ln3pp
This is exactly what i was predicting that would happen when i saw everyone hypped for this pack. The world that comes with it its a disappointment, most of the buildings in the world are not playable, there's only 2 empty lotes if im not mistaken and the buildings that are playable are awfull, super bad decorated, you can rlly see how they put 0 effort in it. And ofc, the pack had to be bugged so that you buy a pack that you cant even play. Its sad rlly. I would be ashamed to work on sims 4 after so many years of disappointing the players that wasted so much money on this game when its not worth it at all.

"For Rent" was my first expansion pack I ever bought. I only recently started playing the Sims 4, maybe October 2023. I love The Sims and used to buy every new game released on ps2. Then, I went to college and stopped playing all games for years. I just got my first gaming laptop in August 2023. It's been great. I bought "For Rent" on December 9th as a bday gift to myself. A week later, I bought Cottage Living (which stopped me from quitting The Sims). During the holiday sale, I bought a few more packs, but I don't own every world. For Rent: ● I'm not a fan, and I didn't expect glitches to be a normal part of new packs. ● I received no rent for at least 2 months in game. (I had to uninstall and reinstall the game to fix this problem, which took hours to complete) ● Landlord events make no sense, like you said. I've only played as a landlord so far. 1. Usually, on a weekly basis, my tenants revolt on a Tuesday (right before I'm supposed to collect rent) regardless of rental conditions. I made luxury apartments and did all the upgrades myself. This gave me a 5 star rating eventually. 2. Unbreakable items in units are problematic. As a landlord with maxed handiness skill, I went to the event about a broken oven causing electrical problems. In the unit, the oven was unbreakable and fully upgraded. Nothing in the unit was broken or causing electrical problems. My task was to click on the oven and replace it or repair it 🤷🏾‍♀️. But, I couldn't click on the oven at all. My unit rating went down because I failed the event. 3. Max occupancy rule is constantly broken, and fine is not accepted by tenant immediately. Sometimes, it takes 3 tries to get it accepted and paid, but every failed attempt results in a rating decreasing, and tenants become upset. I can't find where it states the max number of occupants allowed in a unit. The game tells me when to issue the fine. But I've fined a family of 7 or 8 people (the Motts household always 🤦🏽‍♀️), and I've fined a family of 4...idk the rules. 4. I really don't know the rules for the fines. No trash overload is one of my rules, but I'm constantly called to deal with trash overload, either with a contractor or doing it myself. Only once have I been able to issue a fine to a unit for trash overload, but I've dealt with this event at least 15 times now. 5. Justly evict. I evicted the Motts once after serving them with the max occupancy fine 3 times. The max rent was $265 for that unit before evicting them. After I evicted them, the max rent was $4. I exited without saving the game, so the Motts still live there. Idk what happened there, but I can't change the rent anymore. It still says $4 as max, and it's 5 stars with luxury amenities. ● I'm sure there is tons more. I'd like to complain that this comment is already too long. I haven't experienced the white screen yet when changing worlds, but I have been dealing with the endless loading screen. I'm learning to save more often because I had to force the game to close a few times yesterday. During the grace period, I changed the rent to it's max amount. The tenants living there will pay it or leave on their own. Mine have stayed, even when changing a rent of like $50 to $250 or more. Having better amenities and doing upgrades to those amenities will make the unit more expensive. If anyone knows how to stop an owned rental property from being rented, please let me know how. It's annoying that tenants are placed automatically, especially when I'm still doing work on those units or saving a unit for my household. **Nevermind. I got the white screen on Chestnut Ridge and Tomarang. Last night all worlds worked fine. Now after update this happens 😒

I usually wait to buy a pack but I was super excited about this one. I’ve had lots of problems with this pack. The more you add apartments to a save file, the worse it gets. I never attempted the landlord function. It sounds like that gameplay is super glitchy too.
  • @kelskels4079
This is exactly how I feel, but probably taken further than you. I understand you still like the game, and I like the game too. That’s why I’m so passionate about this! I have played since the first Sims game! I’ve had a glitchy expierence with nearly every single pack I’ve bought, which is contrary to your expierence. I can’t support them anymore because of this. I stopped buying packs, and I’m quite sad about it. People tend to disagree with me when I say this, but I don’t say it out of hate this is from love of the franchise. Maybe it’s a different expierence for me because I have to preface that I’m on console. I have PS5, but the game is still a PS4 game and not optimized for the new PS5 hardware. I feel like I’ve genuinely been scammed in some instances because it’s not okay to release something that’s not functional, and YEARS later still not fix it and not issue refunds. I feel like this is borderline illegal. It’s certainly not ethical! I feel like a fool for feeling like the next pack will be different, and I end up buying it then regretting it. I don’t want to give EA my money anymore because I feel like this practice is so predatory of them, but I end up doing it anyway because I love the Sims. It’s hard to get into the details without making this a super lengthy comment. I own everything with the exception of Growing Together, For Rent, and the clothing kits. The following packs are completely broken to the point of the main functions not being usable for me: Cats & Dogs, Eco Lifestyle, Get to Work, Island Living, HS Years, Dine Out, and Wedding Stories. I have others that aren’t included in this list because they are super problematic, but not technically nonfunctional. This is NOT okay! The ones I listed as nonfunctional either the advertised gameplay mechanics are so bugged it doesn’t work, or the world itself is broken and glitchy (Island Living and Eco Liftyle, even after reinstalling have worlds that fragment and seperate it’s so weird). Cottage Living for example isn’t nonfunctional, but the animal ageing is broken (the setting doesn’t work) and all my animals still die which devastate me. The pack works, but it makes me so sad. Then, when you have nearly all the packs installed the game at its base functionality is affected with simulation issues. I’m not kidding when I say I’ve done absolutely everything I can to make this game run better on my end. I report and track all my issues. Lots of my problems have been reported as solved on EA’s page, but it’s far from the truth! I really appreciate seeing this video, I haven’t seen your channel prior and I found myself subscribing to you. I think these honest critiques are so important. People need to know, and we do deserve better. I adore the Sims and I keep going back to it, but I’m routinely disappointed. The game is so old, and I think they are putting out new content faster than it can be handled. I don’t want to feel this way, and I want to buy all the cool new things but it’s not justifiable for me. With every purchase the game gets worse for me (though Horse Ranch was literally perfect and not an issue which was the first in a long time for me, which proves they CAN make good stuff). I don’t think much attention is paid to console either though. PC has problems of course it does, but I wish people knew the issues Console has too. People don’t realize all that’s going on. I was so close to caving in and buying For Rent you have no idea! This proves that at the bare minimum we need to wait, but ultimately I think I should avoid it. Thank you again for the video!

You are not alone! James Turner also stopped his For Rent LP because of bugs - as others have.
