New Duelling Wand is Absolutely Broken (OSRS)

This new wand will absolutely shift the mid game meta for irons, especially with the inclusion of elemental weaknesses. Not only is it stronger than Iban's Blast, but it may also take advantage of elemental weaknesses to serve as something like a "magic blowpipe"

Is it broken or am I missing something? Let me know below :)

  • They need to pick one. It either needs to be elemental so it benefits from the tome they're adding OR it needs to be a comparable spell to un-elemental ones like powered staves/Iban's. Making it do both eliminates the whole point of project rebalance

This update proposal made me realize just how undertuned warped septre actually is lol
  • I don't think it will be less annoying than Iban's assuming it eats up pages from the tome to give the 10% bonus.

Forgot to mention this weapon is going to have a 10 TILE attack range, which also can affect DPS positively too

Scrap the Earth spell. With a name like "dueling wand" it should be able to cast any elemental spells at 3 ticks with reduced max hits and range. Make it sit between standard casts and the Harm nm staff for dps. Harm staff is a HUGE jump in DPS, rarity and price. There's space to be filled there.

The amount of runes you save is based on the following infinite sum: Sum of N = 0 to infinity of (1/3)^N. This sum gives the probability of saving a death rune for N consecutive times. The sum converges to 0.5, which means for every death rune you save half a death rune. I also want to add that the charts confuse me greatly. Why does the warped sceptre and Iban Blast break even in their dps AFTER 85 magic when warped sceptre has a max hit of 20 at 81-85 magic, making it equal in power with the iban blast at those levels when you take difference of ticks into account. That's just one of many weird inconsistencies in the dps chart.

Do the dps calc at each level. They were very selective about which levels they chose so it’s misleading. Check at levels where trident and warped sceptre gain max hits instead of their chosen ones and you might see those points of more/less damage go to a few levels lower

You can't use thralls with it, for anyone with 76+ Magic that's 0.625 dps that powered staves get that this doesn't get. Even against monsters with Earth weaknesses, this is worse than Earth Surge from a Smoke Battlestaff or Staff of the Dead or Kodai Wand, not to mention the Harm Staff. It's only better than Iban Blast if you have a Tome of Earth, so I'm not even sure if it's worth it at Barrows since you have to give up your Ghommal's Hilt. So this weapon's niche is... slayer tasks you should skip, but only for low levels? It seems unreal that a group boss drop would get outclassed by items that cost less than 3 million coins.

You overlooked that the earth spells in the standard spell book will scale up to the fire spells damage

That's.. kind of a crazy mid game wand. It functions like a 3-Tick powered staff that's boosted by the tome of earth AND has a 30% chance to not consume runes. That seems pretty overtuned for a mid game wand no? *Unless Kodai is getting changed the dueling wand has a higher chance to not consume runes than it does.

i really don't see it being on arceus spellbook, it seems like the whole point of the elemental damage thing was to breathe some life back into standards, but this wand really doesnt compete very well with charged staves. sure its better damage than a warped sceptre until 95, but i think most accounts will have a trident before that point. the key thing is not being able to benefit from smelling salts, or overloads since spells dont have the scaling max hit powered staves do. at 75 magic using an overload you get 18 levels, boosting you to 93 magic so your dps is better already, and smelling salts have an even bigger boost of 23 putting you at 98. this guts the dueling wands dps in cox and toa, and the places you mage outside of that matter a lot less. the earth attribute could be useful if we knew more mobs that are going to be weak to it, but as of right now all we know are metal drags, waterfiends, and wyrms. 2 of these are skips for a majority of players, and the other one is a mid tier slayer mob.

“Until 85 magic” is nothing though, considering this combo is a pair of rare drops from a boss. You’ll be lucky to get it by 75 magic and use it for a week. It’ll be fun when the next league starts in varlamore I guess.

I don't think it is broken. It is only stronger than ibans/warped when using pages and/or against monsters weak to that element. Will something like trident of the seas also count as elemental (water), giving it the edge in some cases? At that point it just depends on the monster. Toxic trident is better at any highish magic level. The two great things about this wand though are the fast speed as you point out (hit many low-health enemies) and long attack range.
  • @gouldenroger
Pretty sure they said in Project Rebalance powered staves don’t benefit from the elemental weakness system. Nothing in this blog to say this weapon would be any different. Ibans is not fire This won’t be earth
