Woody Harrelson doesn't get as much praise as McConaughey for this show, but he's fucking brilliant too.

The fact that even Rust, who takes everything in his stride, stands at the opposite end of the room and stares at the wall tells you everything you need to know about how bad the tape must be

"You kill Tuttle?" I love that Marty isn't judgmental, or even accusing. If Rust had told him he'd killed Tuttle Marty would have been completely fine with it.
  • @Jeudaos
"nobody, should have this" that line was delivered absolutely brilliantly!
  • This scene is terrifying. This is 2 battled hardened detectives who have just seen the most horrifying proof of evil in the world. And they now realize they are the only 2 who could do something about it. Such a perfect performance by 2 masters of the craft

I love how Rust gives a bottle of whiskey to Marty. He was almost saying, "You can't handle this shit without it.."

this one episode shits on everything that is "american horror story" and the modern horror genre. chilling.
  • What I loved most about this scene was Marty absolutely hated and distrusted Rust at this point and didn't want anything to do with him but didn't hesitate to jump on board to help once he saw this tape. "What can I do to help?" True detective.

"I won't avert my eyes; not again." Powerful f*cking line!
  • Here's the thing about what's on the tape. Marty's reaction just shows you that some REALLY bad shit went down. The imagination of the audience is a far greater and more dangerous tool rather than actually show what is on the tape.
  • I love how anyone who watches the tape reacts like a character from the cthulhu mythos. Like they're learning truths that destroy their mind, and it actually makes sense. Because seeing something like that would have to destroy your whole view of the world.
  • One of the most powerful & horrifying scenes of S1. The fact that it gives you a glimpse of the tape, just snippets, and let's you imagine what happened is just repulsive. You actually feel how Rust & Cole feel. Absolutely GENIUS filmmaking. I rate this with the Sopranos & The Wire at this stage.

“You shouldn’t have that.” “Nobody should have this.”

Marty's reaction isn't just about what's on the tape. Him and Rust could've caught these bastards 20 years ago but they let them slip away.

The thing I love most about this scene and Harrelson’s performance here is that he realises this is partly his fault. He killed Reggie Ledoux before Rust had an opportunity to interrogate him and given Rust’s reputation for getting suspects to talk he could’ve given them the information they needed to arrest these sick animals before they managed to do this. The writing of this series is up there with some of the finest ever produced.
  • 2:07 ...the expression Marty's face is heart breaking. Good god that must've been tramautizing to watch what happened next. Poor Rust had to deal with that alone for who knows how long. Tremendous scene.

Rust couldnt even watch it again, but he knew the only way to convince Marty was to show him the horror of what was left unsolved

"And there's a videotape." Marty's reaction to that line is perfect. He knows it's not footage of puppies playing with kittens on there. And he knows he'll have to watch what IS on there. This season was so good.
