KINGDOM HEARTS TIMELINE - Episode 54: To Lose and Claim Anew

Here we are to what I think is the most undervalued title of the series. Chain of Memories is actually one of my favorite chapters of the whole saga. Its gameplay is definitely redundant, but it was the very first title that allowed Sora to unleash extremely powerful and spectacular sleights. We've never again seen Sora performing a Raging Storm just like a proper Keyblade Master like Aqua could do, and his style when using Lethal Frame is, still today, unique to this title.
Sora's ability with the Keyblade greatly improved during his staying in Castle Oblivion - he became more confident with it, way more than in KH1, and this is where his confidence in using the Keyblade with multiple styles began, carrying the same confidence later into KH2. It's also the first time we see Sora struggling with his own self, almost reaching the edge of desperation. All of this contributed to Sora's growth and definitely must not be underestimate.

KINGDOM HEARTS TIMELINE is an incredibly massive project I've been wanting to do forever. The only thing that was stopping me from actually working on it was the still-incomplete plot of the χ[chi] portion of the whole saga, which is also the most confusing one. However, I did want to deliver this before the release of KINGDOM HEARTS 3, so we could have the perfect road to the final chapter of the Xehanort saga at our disposal and relive, together, all of the chapters in a definitive and never-seen-before way.
KINGDOM HEARTS TIMELINE is, in fact, different by any other playthroughs or projects around because it is composed of all the Kingdom Hearts titles released so far placed in chronological order. Beware – the events are actually settled chronologically. Which means that every single cutscene and/or gameplay part will follow the exact order of the events of the saga. For instance, the birth of Vanitas will be shown before the Mark of Mastery exam, and so on.
Every episode will start with a screen showing a complete timeline I created purposely for this project.

KINGDOM HEARTS TIMELINE doesn't want to be a simple movie made of cutscenes. If It were to be like that, there wouldn't be anything special about it. This project actually started as a playthrough, giving, of course, priority to story content.
Sitting and watching a 25 minutes video made of cutscenes we've been watching for a decade is just as boring as anything else. Gameplay bits have been thoughtfully placed to make sure you won't fall asleep when watching, giving their contribute for a more immersive experience. They are necessary for keeping people interested and entertained in a never-seen-before way to re-live the saga, watching multiple characters fighting at the same time, as well as showcasing the worlds and the variety of enemies we'll encounter through all the titles.
Besides, I'm not adding more than 1 minute or so of random gameplay in a total of 25 minutes for each episode–except for bosses lasting 2 minutes or so. Boss battles are still what people look forward to the most in a Kingdom Hearts playthrough, and this project won't be exception.
Finding the right balance is not easy and not always possible –due to countless technical restrictions related to music, episode length and such– just as it's not easy having everyone thinking alike. Of course, I can't make everyone happy, but I did want to point this out.

Lastly, I want you guys to know that the amount of effort being put for this is massive. There are countless hours of work and dedication I've spent (and still spending) for this, for something we all love and care about. My channel is, after all, always been made of this – content that will grant you one of the best levels of knowledge and enjoyment of the Kingdom Hearts saga – and, as much as it's stressful having to translate every Japanese Union χ [Cross] episode, I still do that to deliver the latest story updates of the saga for you.
My main goal is working as much professionally as I can and add details where normally people wouldn't add. Not liking a content is totally fine, whereas insulting and posting offensive comment is not. There is nothing worse than spending your own time to show dedication for something we all love and see offensive reactions coming back at you. For this whole project to be completed, suggestions and questions coming from fans are well accepted and needed. If you do think this deserves appreciation, leaving a Like on the video is more than enough to me. Thank you for reading all of this, and please enjoy!

my favorite thing about Chain of Memories is that it actually semi-regularly acknowledges that Jiminy exists and is actually fairly important to the group despite being a non-combatant. The other games usually just give him one or two scenes near the start to frame the info pages. Here he's giving advice, voicing concerns, generally just trying to do his main job (being a conscience) because for once they're in a relatively calm environment where he can be out and about without falling off Sora's shoulder.
  • Having a few Roxas episodes in between KH1 and CoM certainly makes Sora's instant puberty less jarring lol

After 50+ episodes, I begin to see that your stylistic choices are tying games together very well. Putting reports from BbS, KH1 and KH2 at their time of writing is on-spot with 358/2 Days' reports which have their own timestamp; broken-TV-styled flashbacks throughout episodes are following the style of Sora's memories being altered in KH2 and dreamt about by Roxas; etc. You even mirrored the added scene in KH1 Final Mix's ending with flashbacks from Destiny Islands with your added, similar flashbacks in the Final Episode of BbS! Lots of thinking went behind this (far beyond just cinematically cutting existing gameplay and cutscenes together), and it added a lot of depth to what is a great spring/summer (?) series.

As soon as Sora came upon Castle Oblivion, I was like "He's gonna do it, isn't he?" and then you flashed back to Aqua after she made CO and I was like "YES HE DID IT!!" This was an awesome episode. It's gonna be so cool to see how Days and CoM truly intertwine together. Between Sora, Riku, and the Days plots all overlapping, the next set of episodes are sure to be excellent since we've never seen these events properly laid out in order before. Amazing stuff, Everglow!

"The Organization's got... ...a second castle in the world between worlds."
  • Hey everglow I know it must take a lot to do these kingdom hearts timeline videos I would just like to say you are doing an awesome job. I know it must be really stressful planning everything out and put each scene in order, but I just really appreciate you doing this for us kingdom fans. Keep up the good work. I'm a huge fan

interesting to imply that the feeling Sora gets is in reference to Ven. it wouldn't be a wrong implication to make.

Finally! I've been super excited to see how 358 blends with RE:Chain at the same time!!

Welcome to Chain of Memories: beautiful story, horrifying gameplay.
  • @Ventus2077
Love how Master Aqua was added to the scene of Castle Oblivion, it’s brilliant
  • "Our very best friends are here." The whole thing about Sora + co. feeling like they can sense their friends in Castle Oblivion has this enormous weight on the heels of your flashback to Aqua/Ven's experiences there. Obviously BBS wasn't a thing when CoM was made, but that doesn't make the ties between the two games any less impactful when we (as fans) draw them retroactively. And then in Traverse Town, the whole thing about "[our hearts] doing the remembering for us" just really works for the series as a whole. I love how you're continuing to loop back in BBS content. it's so wonderful to see Sora's heart resonating with Ven's and Aqua's in real time. also dang, Roxas eating ice cream alone after Axel leaves? heartbreaking. Beautiful job, as always

Ah Chain of Memories. A personal favorite. I know I lot of people didn't like the card combat but I had a ton of fun with it and led to multiple playthroughs with different styles of decks. Also the story is really freaking good. Looking forward to seeing what Everglow's playstyle will be.

"Wild Crush" why dont they just use Goofy's Head to defeat Xehanort.
  • @cruderschmidt
A popular theory is that Some of Sora's sleights are coming from Ventus having an impact being so close to Sora
  • @TheChosenKey
That was definitely Namine' trying to warn Sora of what's to come since she's already for a hold of his memories. Hmmm, didn't realize that until now.
