  • "ITS KRUL FOR NETHERLANDS,ITS CRUEL FOR COSTA RICA" One of the best commentaries in the World Cup
  • @shawnzorf
Louis van Gaal had plenty of moments of brilliance during that World Cup. That flexible 5-3-2 formation put Spain into a lot of trouble, and then he made a few switches to use Dirk Kuyt and Daryl Janmaat to mark Alexis Sánchez individually against Chile. Then in the Round of 16 against Mexico, he put Huntelaar especially for the penalties, and it came in handy for that infamous Robben dive. And then this happened.
  • An unforgettable night for real. One of the most intense games of WC 2014 for sure!!

"It's Krul for the Dutch it's cruel for Costa Rica" is one of the coldest on the spot improvisation lines ever!
  • as a Costa Rican we will remember Tim Krul forever negatively :(

I remember watching this in a local pub. What a great penalty shootout it was
  • Louis Van Gaal didn’t deserve the criticism he got at Man U. The guy’s an ingenious manager and deserves success with the Netherlands

Even though Costa Rica lost and I am Costa Rican, this game is legendary, it was such a tight game, both teams fought to the end to get the win, I could not take my eyes off of the TV, this is the kind of game fans dream of. Hopefully we will see more of that in this 2022 world cup. Best of luck to the Netherlands team, or as we call them in Latin America "La Naranja Mecanica" which loosely translates to "The Orange Machine", they are one of the teams I always like to watch in the world cups.

The fact that every Dutch player made it to the pitch in that world cup, even the third-choise goalie, is one of my favourite World Cup facts. What a team. My favourite world cup of them all.
  • The Netherlands v Argentian shootout was bizarre for the Dutch. Why Ron Vlaar was the first to kick was beyond me.
  • This Dutch team was really something else. So much talent and an incredible run. Very much team to watch.
  • Really appreciated the explanation of the distraction tactics and the empiric data on it. Just 10 minutes in the limelight but that's all he needed to be immortalised.

This moment is legendary. My family and I still talk about it sometimes. I'll remember it for the rest of my life.
  • Went back to college after the summer, played fifa with a friend and chose the netherlands. Put krul in goal cuz i was like "ah, just in case it goes to penalties". And it did and i pulled a krul myself by beasting that shootout lol.
  • Best world cup I've seen so far (from 2002) each & every match was delightful
