Ed King tells the story of him in the rehearsal house, where Ronnie would always demand they bring something to work on, and Ed was playing around with this riff, and Ronnie, sitting by kept motioning him to keep playing, then after a bit, Ronnie came up to Ed, and whispered in his ear "Two feets they come a creepin, like a black cat do". They knew it was a hit in the making.

Inducted in 2006. Ronnie Van Zant wrote their lyrics and he lived like a gangster in a rough neighborhood in Florida. He was nice when sober and deadly when drunk. He did have strong feelings about guns and about driving under the influence that he put in his songs.
  • These dudes are bad ass and they were inducted into the rock n roll of fame in 2006.

Actually a Saturday night special was a scheap made small caliber hand gun also called junk guns. they were also referred to as suicide specials. they came out in the late 19th century and early 20th century
  • They made five great records before the untimely death of Ronnie Van Zant the singer, Steve Gaines the guitar player, Steve's sister and a few crew in that plane crash. They did music with his brother Johnny years later starting in 1991 under the same name, and its not bad. But the golden age is 70s Skynyrd for sure!

YES!!!!..This is why I love yall! The Lynyrd Skynyrd band was the worst loss to rock beside Hendrix.
  • @CANEsPappa
Surprising, that a southern rock band would lead the way with an anti-drug song, that smell, and an anti-gun song, Mr. Saturday night special! These cats are way ahead of their time!

A "Saturday Night Special" usually described cheap hand guns, sold on the black market in the 1970s. Some of these things were crude and flimsy, but guess what- They were cheap, widely available, and worked....
  • Guys, get their double live album called, “One More From The Road.” It’s the proof that shows just how tight and so well rehearsed they were live.
  • Yep, the band was inducted in 2006. It's always hard when thinking about what might have been lost that day in 1977, but we all know almost 50 years later that it was pure greatness. There will never be another band like Lynyrd Skynyrd. Thanks again, fellas, for keeping their music alive and for another great reaction as usual.
  • Yes we had gun issues way back then to. The Saturday Night Special was a small caliber gun. Like a 25 cal. Easy to conceal and was a throwaway gun. From what i remember i was a teenager. Makes me happy that y'all are diggin Skynyrd. My favorite. Ronnie Van Zants wrote songs regular folks could relate to.
  • @Booderman
Their songs “ 4 walls of Raiford” and “ Mr.Banker” off the legends album are a couple of my personal favorites!
