From the ZIIP to the NuFace, Foreo Bear and more, microcurrent devices have become some of the biggest-selling, at-home anti-aging treatments. In this video I explore the scientific evidence behind them and share my own experience having used microcurrent for over 5 years.

I've been using the NuFace Trinity for almost two and a half years now - just turned 71. I've been very happy with it. To be clear, it isn't a miracle worker. It also doesn't seem to have much effect on my wrinkles. It has, however, helped enormously with laxity just under my jowls, with a fold of skin that had developed between my eyes (now gone), and with some sagging in my cheeks that was causing the corners of my mouth to turn down, one side especially. It also helps with my eyelid sagging. It has a mild toning effect on the face muscles and gives my face a healthier color. The Trinity has five levels. It's not comfortable on my neck at the highest level so I use a lower level there and still get good results. I certainly agree that if you are looking for wrinkle elimination, there may be better at home devices, and that if you're very saggy, you won't get dramatic results from the NuFace - but, based on my experience and that of at least some over 50s, that doesn't mean it won't help you.

I just got the nuface mini as it was highly recommended and Ulta had it on sale at a significantly reduced price. I told myself I could still return it. Since I’m 68 and while I’ve been wearing sunscreen since the 80’s I inherited my dad’s jowls. I thought I might be too late. My goal was 3 days on, one day off. I do have a cup of water to rehydrate the gel. I use it on high. Within 2 weeks the difference in my jowls is pretty dramatic, my turkey neck is improved. I find it rather meditative so it’s easy to keep at it. I bought it a week before Black Friday….. I love it!

Hi Clare, I have used micro current for about 10 years now, & love it because it has always made me look youthful. I started with the Tua Viso & the Tua Trend which only need water without the gel. I love them, & still have them. The NuFace didn't do much for me, but I had both, along with the mini. I have the NRGY that's made from Truth treatments with both micro current & EMS, ( a bit strong, but effective. I purchased the Myolift QT & it is fast & easy to use, & it works. But recently I purchased the Halo Ziip & absolutely love it, & use it every other day. But my holy grail is the MiTama, which gives you an instant facial for at least 2 days. You just apply a sheet mask & place your electrodes on top & sit back & relax. I love it, & will never be without it!!!! I also purchased the Jane Mann Lift probe that you can attach to the MiTama, or the Myolift Qt or the Pico Tone, (which I don't have), And the Lift probe does a wonderful microcurrent job too! I also use the Omnilux LED mask daily alternating with the Qure, that only takes 3 minutes. Microcurrent & LED keeps me glowing!!!!

I switched to Foreo Bear 2 and never looked back. Fantastic microcurrent device
  • @kasey5973
I love the Myolift. I use the gloves, so no gel. Really enjoy your channel.

If anyone is using the Nuface and feels any uncomfortableness the they are not using enough conduction gel
  • @sandieb9273
Hi Clare, like you, i own both Ziip's, and I have to say the Halo is making such a difference, apart from the lift, the glow it leaves on my skin is just amazing. 4 minutes a day is totally do-able, and so much easier without the app. Nuface did nothing for me. Looking forward to hearing about Maysama Urchin. I can definitely see the improvements on your face Clare, your skin looks so much more tighter, lifted and ......well, just so healthy, from when I first started watching your first video, so well done. Love your channel. Thank you for your amazing research, it is appreciated.x

The Ziip Gx was given as a gift to me. I love it. I badly hurt my hand also years ago now, I used the Zip on it and daily pain and my doctor said permident untreatable arthritis went away after I used the Ziip on my hand for about a year and it never came back. Woah. What does it do for our face if that happens?! Cool.
  • @ken-ibel
I love the ZIIP!!! It’s the only device I have stuck with because of how easy it’s to use. Overall it’s a great device! I also love the Myolyft Mini, I use that one once a month.

I wasted money on the Nuface and I am really annoyed with myself!! I found it a total pain in the bum applying the gel and then using the device. I found it took longer than I had anticipated and it really annoyed my husband when I used it at night!!!! I gave it a go, religiously, for nearly a year, and saw no difference whatsoever!! So it now gathering dust!! I do love the CurrentBody LED mask that is so much easier to use - because I can get on with a few things around the house/or at work (from home!!!). I am interested in the new Maysama device, but I' wait til I see your interview with Bev first. These things are so flippin expensive and the research seems so scant that I often wonder if we are being sold a pig-in-a-poke!!!

I had the nuface for years .. I love it .. I recently got the bear and I use it when I’m in a hurry or traveling.
  • @chickenjools
Hi Clare. Thank you so much for this video. I had the Foreo Bear and found myself not using it because I couldn’t just pick it up and use it. I always had to use the app and, if my phone was downstairs or in another room, I would often not bother. In theory, once you’ve downloaded and registered the Bear, and set it up on the app, you should be able to use the Bear without the app but it never worked for me. I bought the Ziip Halo and I love it. I, like you, do the 4 minute workout about 5 times a week. I find it comfortable and very ergonomic whereas the Foreo Bear was less comfortable to hold in my hand. Thank you for the cheaper, alternative conductor gels/serums too. Some of the branded ones are very expensive. Great video, as always. 😊

I am one of the people who experienced facial fat loss from a microcurrent device. I used the Foreo Bear for about 2 years and my face became visibly flatter and hollower with every use. I thought it was lymph drainage at first. So continued using it (which was a big mistake!). I lost volume everywhere I used the device. I saw no benefits. No lifting, no toning, no improvement to skin texture. I had initially begun using it in my early 30s as a preventative measure as I was noticing the beginning of shadows in the jowel area. I was hoping for some lifting or slowing down of this getting worse. Needless to say, the opposite happened! I have also always had a very full, round face and it was like the device ate my face and completely changed my facial shape! My cheeks vanished. My buccal fat is gone and my temples are now deep and hollow. I went through 3 Bear devices and all 3 developed the same fault within a few months (the middle light not lighting up ypon skin contact - if this light is not on then the microcurrent is not conducting). And all three did give me little uncomfortable shocks at times. I used as directed. I have managed to rebuild my cheeks a little bit using Adipeau for 6 months, but it didn't work on any other areas of the face and my face has never been the same 2 years after discontinuing microcurrent. So, I would advise caution and say it does come with a risk of facial fat loss without seeing any benefits for some people. Until we understand why this is, it's a game of Russian Roulette with your face!

I tried the NuFace a while back but returned it. I found it really uncomfortable and knew I'd never stick with it. I'm very interested to see your next installment. The microcurrent plus red light might be the way to go. Thanks for your hard work!
  • @claudiaglows
Great video Clare. Like you I love micro current and have been using it for quite a while for subtle but noticeable results
  • Thank you so much. I did a lot of research before buying two different devices (one of which I gave to my 40 year old daughter). I mentioned this in comments back in December. The one I use and love is the Pico Toner. It is strong enough for the body. Not inexpensive, but it gives you some options. Case in point, the Pico Toner comes with metallic gloves, so no conductive gel is needed. You only need to wet the gloves. I purchased the options of the ANMA and wands, and for those items you do need to use a conductive gel. With the gloves, I can give myself a hand treatment while watching a movie with my husband. It is worth it just for what it has done with my hands! Now, as to your point about the skin/muscle jumping, you do not want this. With the Pico Toner, you can set the device at a low setting, and you can increase the power, as you need. Obviously, the thick knee skin will take a stronger power versus the delicate skin on the neck.
  • I’ve had the nuface and clareblend mini and got the ziip halo this week. The ziip is amazing! I’ve really seen a difference already. You’re looking lovely Claire, really pretty ❤️🥰
  • @idahardy4052
I had to stop using microcurrent because I developed rosacea and the microcurrent seemed to trigger it. I am sad about it because I think it really did help keep everything around my eyes lifted. The first one I ever had was the one from Suzanne Somers.
  • @mtnpfi
I tried the NuFace too and had to return it because it made my teeth-roots (right word?) very sensitive! Thank you for your work🙏🏼
  • Thank you for sharing, Clare. I always enjoy how in-depth your videos are, so I've learnt a lot about my favourite modality as well. I personally do see a lot of change with my bear, I wasn't too keen on the nuface though. And I do agree, it's important to be realistic with our expectations, so if you've already got some significant sagging, it won't be as effective
