Omg yes, it’ll be cheaper in the long run to let the guy doing the repair to source the parts. Ok I know everyone asks: whys my mechanic charge me 5$ a qt for oil and the store is 3$? There’s some time and handling by the mechanic, should he reduce his labor rate to complete those tasks ? He also stores it or stocks some on his shelf. So that’s some of the extra costs for the oil. The honest guys use decent parts also, so they might be sourcing parts somewhere other than the cheapest on the block. And the video answered the rest about the customer sourcing wrong parts and other issues with doing that. All good points, great vid.
  • Not to mention but as a general rule shops mark up parts by 30%. That's reality. A reputable shop will pay considerably less at a jobber than Joe blow walking in off the street. So if you're paying ten bucks for a part the shop might only be paying seven. They are still gonna sell it to you for ten. Don't believe any shop that says they don't make money on parts.
