After 8 years and 18 expeditions to New Guinea, Australia, and nearby islands, Cornell Lab scientist Ed Scholes and National Geographic photojournalist Tim Laman succeeded in capturing images of all 39 species in the bird-of-paradise family for the first time ever. It is good to remember that New Guinea is not just an extremely unique hotspot of biodiversity and explosive beauty, in cultural terms it is also a very unique place, one that is home to a vast variety of native cultures, and that also has the richest and most diverse linguistic variety on earth! Truly, there are many many reasons why this region should be especially and intensively protected and studied, before human stupidity and greed destroys this paradise forever... greetings from the Amazon forest
