This is one of the best most simplified animations on Youtube!! You deserve more views! Still very very challenging to understand as you have to imagine multiple things working all together in a 3D multi-layed synergy. Its fascinating.

Thanks for this explanation. I do think that it's not the planetary gearing that is difficult to understand but how hydraulic pressure is used to control the clutches and how this interacts with the planetary gear system. The structure of the clutch packs is also complex and worthy of a model.

Thank you, very well presented. Ever since I had to have my auto transmission rebuilt I've been trying to understand how it works and this has been very useful. Manual transmissions are quite easy for a layman like me to understand but autos are more complex to get my head around.

Best animation and illustration seen till now for explaining automatic transmission. You know, it will be even better if you show the same animation while taking a quarter section to show the ring gear movement before showing each section alone. It will make it more understandable.
