A VERY DRAMATIC END TO A SHORT FLIGHT THAT LMA CHAIRMAN DAVE JOHNSON HAD WITH HIS MASSIVE DELTA WING BOMBER IN GUSTING 20 MPH WINDS AT THIS GREAT RC SHOW.
NOT SURE OF THE REASON FOR THE FIRE BUT NO DAMAGE WAS DONE AND THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED INSIDE A SPECIALLY DESIGNED STAINLESS STEEL TUBE INSIDE THE WING !
THE VULCAN IS 1/5 TH SCALE WITH A WING SPAN OF JUST OVER 20 FT AND WEIGHS AROUND 139 KG / 300 ILBS,
SHE HAS OVER 100 SQ FT OF WING AREA WITH A WING LOADING OF 3ILB / SQUARE FOOT - SIMILAR TO A LARGE GLIDER,
SHE IS POWERED BY FOUR JETSMUNT 160 GAS TURBINES WHICH PRODUCE 155 ILBS OF THRUST COMBINED AND CARRIES 20 KG OF FUEL TO FEED THEM !
SHE ALSO HAS AROUND 8 KG OF LEAD BALLAST ONBOARD TO BALANCE HER CORRECTLY,
THE WEIGHT OF ALL THREE UNDERCARRIAGES ALONE COMES TO 25 KG,
IN THE 2013 SEASON SHE LOGGED 40 FLIGHTS,
IT TOOK DAVE AND HIS TEAM OVER THREE YEARS TO DESIGN AND BUILD THE MODEL !
THE VULCAN APPROACHES THE 120MPH MARK
FILMED AT AN RC MODEL AIRCRAFT SHOW RUN BY THE LMA ( LARGE MODEL ASSOCIATION ) AT RAF COSFORD - WOLVERHAMPTON - SHROPSHIRE / STAFFORDSHIRE - WV7 3EX OVER THE WEEKEND OF 18TH & 19 TH JULY - 2015,

awesome build, glad it never ended up smashed into millions of pieces !!
-
This has always been my favourite aircraft of all time.

We have had a lakefront airshow here in Chicago sine the mid 1960s. The real AVRO Vulcan made an appearance at several of the shows. Always a spectacular aircraft and a star of the show. Which often included the Navy Blue Angels or the USAF Thunderbirds. A sad day when that aircraft was permanently grounded.

A super impressive, huge frackin model. Great job with the camera Pete, thanks for sharing and thumbs up. Time for a bacon sandwich :-) Cheers, Bob

Epic is a woefully inadeqaute way to describe this masterpeice

Good no serious damage, hate too see such a beauty go to waste. Flying without problems now?
-
What a beautiful model. Job well done landing it too. I really prefer the RAF NATO colors better though.
-
Fire!!!! that nice

That is a spectacular jet! WOW! It looks awesome on the ground and amazing in the air! I hope there was no significant damage but the pilot did a great job getting that monstrosity to the ground. I think Deano needs one of these, lol. It's simply a scaled up version of the Velocity 50. What could possibly go wrong? lol As always, Pete...thanks for sharing your experiences! That was great!

Did they figure out why it was happening?
-
looks like he needs some tail weight and some elevator trim.
-
Would be amazing if it howled like the real ones.
-
Did this not happen at 2014 cosford !? Nice model.
-
The tea pot was left on too long

When you spend this kind of money on a model, why wouldn't you install an onboard fire suppressant system? A threaded Co2 cartridge and a remote actuator is about all you need.
