My personal opinion: That ship feels perfect for the new republic. Small-ish, clean, advanced, powerful, but not ridiculously so and starfighter-heavy. Chef's kiss

I don't know how difficult it would be, but when you call out specific features on the ship, like the turbo lasers you mention at the beginning of the video, would you be able to add red circles or red a line arrows to where you are refering? I have difficulty keeping up with what you are referring to sometimes.

watching that first scene with the crew of the ship is making me crave a star trek style show surrounding a single large new republic ship

I like the new ships for the canon new republic. They take the two main elements of the republic fleet: bulbous mon calamari cruisers and sleek correlian corvettes, and blend them together masterfully into something unique. Great stuff, and certainly a breath of life for a fairly dry canon new republic.

As someone who played a lot of Star Wars Armada back in the day I can definitely say that these are at least based on the mc-30. Perhaps just upscaled with a corellian Twist as the design is slightly different following New Republic design principles as it seems to have all of the shield and ion gun bulbs missing making it more streamlined and it has definitely been upscaled as the mc-30 as far as I'm aware was about half the size of an Imperial light Cruiser or at the very least in between a light Cruiser and a Corvette
  • @Housecracker
The Ship design while having clear MC-30 inspirations, also sort of (at least to me) has a Munificent frigate feel to it. I'd find it pretty cool if this was some sort of co-Developed by the Mon Calamari and the Muuns.

On the star wars website under the article called Ahsoka analyzed: 5 highlights from part one: master and apprentice. It states that the name of the new Republic ship is called the Vesper. Which means evening prayer. Which is kind of fitting considering the absolute hell Shin and Baylan we're giving them 😅.

I really would like to see a few of these have a skirmish with either an empire remnant faction, a local warlord fleet, or somone deciding to capitalise on the perceived weakness of the new republic, only to find their match and when they finally seem to have the upper hand a Starhawk swoops in and basically dictates surrender terms.

The recessed horizontal strips, separated smooth curved sections and observation tower all remind me heavily of CIS ships (the munificent, recusant and providence classes respectively), so maybe this new one is of Quarren design rather than Mon Cal? It'd explain why it reminds you of Mon Cal design but isn't quite right.

I would’ve liked to see the Nebula Class Star Destroyer/Defender
  • @jeghaterdegforfaen
The new ship design is less intimidating than a Star Destroyer, which fits the New Republic well. I like it.

Judging from the opening shot from the first episode, this New Republic ship has at least 6 visible defense turrets on its dorsal side (4 flanking the rear tower and 2 on the main structure). If the design is similar or based on the MC30c frigate there may likely be additional weapon mounts that are retractable within the ship's structure and torpedo banks either on the bow or ventral side. In my opinion of this design, this may be the canon take of Legend's New Class Modernisation Program where construction is limited to a select few designs purposed for the New Republic Defense Fleet. However, with the mass dematerialisation of the former Alliance fleet it is highly possible that this warship was constructed with a focus on defensive armament instead of an offensive armament (like the MC85 star cruiser). This may explain why there are no visible forward cannons on the bow of the warship, nor a cluster of cannons around the port and starboard sides. I also hope with crossed fingers that we may see a Canon Nebula-class star destroyer in future episodes.

I loved that new ship, but moreso I loved the bridge layout and the interactions between the command crew. it felt good. it felt realistic. now, I know it's Star Wars and it's not meant to be realistic, but these characters, as short as their on screen lives may have been, felt like they had genuine emotions and goals. I can suspend my disbelief only so much when it comes to these things, and this was really good.
  • @darrencobb5036
As to the shuttlebay scene, I have assumed that it is the "command bay" the smaller one that would be used for recieving dignitaries, as mentioned in the X-Wing novel Starfighters of Adumar. this would explain why there were less craft in there also it would have been closer to the bridge.
  • @bjturon
It's in the dialogue from the shipyard manager that the hyper-drives from scrapped ISDs are being refurbished for New Republic warships. So yes, the ISDs are being recycled into a standard class of star-cruisers for the "Starfleet" of the New Republic.

Any new ship is an interesting one to me, Eck. I dont have much going on
  • @ZeKermet
    Mix of mini mc85, mc30 and gr75
  • @Praxus42
It's like a new advanced Dreadnaught cruiser. A good work horse, not as resource and crew intensive, but also not as heavily armed. Maybe with the advances in weapon tech, like better turbolasers and with the mon cal tech, you get better shielding systems, so maybe these can go pound for pound up against a Dread, or maybe even a Victory
