  • Let us all agree on this: The present situation CANNOT continue; it victimizes everyone, including the environment. And two issues must be tied together or this human tragedy will continue; mental illness and drug addiction.

SUPREME COURT ... are there any RULES allowing for AFFORDABLE HOUSING and to PREVENT CORPORATE OWNERSHIP of HOMES that leads to HIGH RENTS šŸ¤”
  • @Wizardof
SCOTUS also said the police have ZERO obligation to respond to calls on tents or any other crime. ZERO. Please note this.

This is a horrible state of affairs !!! Think how the homeless folks feel ... like the entire world cares nothing about their plight !!! Imagine the horrible suffering in jail and courts that this decision will bring upon the poor folk !!!
  • Wouldn't it be easier to LOWER THE RENTS??? IT'S not that complicated!! We rented out our home after researching surroundings rents -- we were charging low & had great tenants because they didn't want to lose their low rent home. Drug & mental health lacks --- government fails here!

Being formerly homeless, I understand both sides . Haven't forgotten about sleeping on busses and trains and showering in McDonald's bathrooms. But in having done security work fo the past 16 years and dealing with homeless, I understand there has to be some order .
  • How do we punish people for sleeping outside if not by putting them in a jail inside that as taxpayers we also pay for and imagine the number of homeless overcrowding jails why can't we just start recognizing homelessness and fix it we have so many dilapidating buildings around this this state we need to make jobs and fix this

Nice, so we feed and house them for free! Why donā€™t you just give everyone half an acre and we move on.
  • Outta sight, outta mind for the ones who donā€™t wanna see it and still collect a paycheck. Thatā€™s the issue.

Just leading into or the woods. I cant beleave I've seen towns ship the homeless to seattle
  • Me like, I am not sure that I must pay for the homeless. Otherwise, they have no initiative to become un-homeless without a little push !!!!

The problem is that they are not addressing homelessness, but how the homeless live. The decision doesn't do anything to address the root cause of why people are forced to sleep on the streets.

There are services to help the homeless! They just donā€™t want to use them because there are rules and requirements that they donā€™t agree with. When youā€™re begging for help, you donā€™t get to be picky and cry about ā€œwhat you donā€™t likeā€ when what theyā€™re offering is FREE šŸ˜”šŸ˜”šŸ˜”šŸ’ÆšŸ’ÆšŸ’Æ
  • The Supreme Court just affirmed the constitutionality of "homeless exclusion zones".

Grants Pass homeless camping law wasn't abusive, they allow homeless to camp in designated parks but they must move to a new park every week, this distinction means they are camping and the park is NOT their home. Homeless advocates think making them move every week was criminalizing homelessness, it is not, they would only get a ticket if they wouldn't move, some resisted moving to test the law, they failed.

We need laws preventing cities from enabling this problem. If the city is going to allow people to camp in public places, then strict standards for doing so. No drugs, no piles of trash, no disturbing residents, etc. We also need more public treatment for those with severe mental illness. That way the people just down on their luck with little support or who aren't compitent get help, not junkies and petty thives.
