I love the little details like Octavio’s music sounding a little off-key because of how many times his old flying mech has taken a beating. It’s become rickety in its movements and can no longer stay flying as long as before, so Octavio had to include legs to make up for it. From the design, to the sound, and even its movements, the Splatoon team spared no cost. In making Octavio the best first boss of the game!

Octavio in 1/2: Nah B, You're goin down. (Loses) Years passed Octavio in 3: Nah B, Imma join the winners and help em (+rep)

Big Man was already a goat AND NOW HE'S A MARIO SUNSHINE REFERENCE

So yesterday I beat Hero Mode and here’s what I found out: Before beating Hero Mode, when you first enter Mr. Grizz’s place; you are greeted by a wooden bear statue holding a fish(salmon) in its mouth like in the previous game. But, when you return to Grizz’s place after finishing Hero Mode; you’ll see that the original statute is replaced with a statue of a big salmon munching on a bear. Not only is this a really clever easter egg; but it comes to show that the Salmons have finally got their revenge on the egg poacher that is Grizz (a reference that bears are the predators of salmons).

Can anyone agree that Shiver with her tongue out is the cutest pose ever done by Shiver? And that Big Man's boss fight gave us Super Mario Sunshine flashbacks?
  • I love the attention to details that the team did, for the DJ, his Octobot's been beaten severely twice, and it can't fly no more, so he added legs to support the mech, and his gear being a hard hat, with a camera and light, it looks like the DJ's been excavating, looking for his troops, while for Fyre, her weapon is literaly a leg less Octostomp, with her being in the tentacle's previous location. And Big Man's fight is just a cool reference and call back to Phantamanta from Super Mario Sunshine, and I love the part that the DJ came back to help in the end.

I like how each boss does something you would be able to see during PvP and Salmon Run. Master Mega's bomb weakness, the Killer Wail callout of Mr Grizz, DJ Octavio's Ink Vac. Really shows they stuck to using Story Mode as an engaging way to do a tutorial.
  • Octavio: why are we fighting the final boss first? big man: Mario sunshine reference. shiver: cool attack patterns and designs Mr grizz: super creative idea for a final boss Frye: SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN. also eels

I kinda wish we had more closure on why Octavio came to fight on our side, but other than that, WHAT A STORY MODE THIS WAS!
  • Love the fact Grizz has to fight with our little salmonid, they never could have peace Edit: good job lil buddy
  • Even as someone who doesn't mind spoilers, I do feel bad for the people who dont like spoilers... (edit) Holy crap is was not expecting this comment to get so many likes and replies...

I feel like in his last moments, Grizz actually accepts that he has failed and concedes that the age of mammals is long over and that cephalopods are the new humans. I like that a lot. It makes him a more respectable villain than tartar ever could have been.
  • Imagine it gets to the fourth one and they find a human that was cryogenically frozen, but still alive

For those that don't know, you can stun Master Mega when he charges at you with his mouth open/after he finishes his ink beam attack by lobbing a bomb in his mouth. Didn't know you could attack him while he's cycling the arena tho. When I saw him I immediately thought of Maws from salmon run.
  • I love that Big Man's boss fight is one big reference to the first stage of Sirena Beach from Mario Sunshine, right down to the green and yellow ink it's definitely the Phantamanta. :D

That part after Octavio says "That Heavenly Melody" just goes super hard.
