    You need an isolated exercise like leg extensions or sissy squats to actually build your quads since the rectus femoris muscle is hardly contracted in squats, lunges or leg presses. It has to do with the muscle being attached to the hip joint. If you do leg extensions leaning backward as much as possible, you will stimulate that muscle.

    It’s an isolation movement. Of course it lacks muscle activation elsewhere. That’s the whole point. Isolation movements are excellent for getting extra volume in lagging muscle groups or for areas you want extra development. That tip about increasing range of motion is actually brilliant too.

  • Not every exercise has to have core demand. Sometimes people just want to work their legs without their abs holding them back (and yes, they do actually hold you back from gains)
