I feel like I'm loosing so much time of my life while watching others on social media. I'm not really that interested in what others are doing but still I can not stop watching reels, ig posts, random ytb videos, etc. It's stupid and sad. Thank you for this video. I already had times in my life when I almost didn't use my phone so I believe I can get there again.

Yeah I did the math and 5 hours a day of screen time is 40 hours a week, 80 days out of the year, and 18 YEARS out of a 82 year average life span. I refuse to waste my life away on my phone, it was slowly killing me to be spending my whole life watching a screen
  • As a person with ADHD, I have what I call my "distraction journal" which is exactly how you use a pen and paper by your side :) I use it for songs that get stuck in my head, sudden tasks I just remembered, all of my "I wonder ___?" stuff that pops up. It's a great way to acknowledge the thoughts and set them aside without feeling bad about it or anxious.

To be honest once I removed TikTok I found that I don’t really use my phone that much
  • Mine must have been over 11 hours. I started listening to YT videos, audiobooks, podcasts as a way to get myself to do things like dishes but now it's basically non stop distraction whenever I feel some sort of resistance or negative emotion - immediately squish it with technological dopamine... Like I actually feel withdrawal for a few seconds if my phone dies while I'm on a YouTube binge :( I'm still productive and "successful" at uni but it takes an increasing amount of adrenaline to get stuff done 10 minutes before the deadline

    1. forest app 2. Intention: physical note/rubber band on phone 3. Note time of you start using phone 4. Flow state 5. write it down on list things need to do on phone
  • I just wanna to add something: changing phone colors from the palette of them to B&W literally saved me. this little life hack makes your phone dull, boring and less stimulating. it's the best advice i've ever read on the internet<3 btw great video, i love the last tip:)
  • I decided to make 30 days social media detox and deleted TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, FB. Left only YouTube on my phone to watch self development videos. Today is day 4 and I feel I become main character in my life. And to be honest I'm not losing a thing without social media. Can't wait to see my huge progress in life after 30 days. P.s. I'm not compering myself with anyone and I feel calm, less stressed and self confidence.

Since I've been tracking it, my worst ever screen time was 12 hours and 25 minutes. Honestly it's disgraceful. My daily average is 7-8 hours, which is still horrendous. I really want to get my screen time down to 4 hours. I'll definitely try the last tip in particular, it's a great idea! Thank you for the video!

Being on your phone is like with every bad habit. You’re isolated from the world and reality, spending minutes and hours at a time without noticing
  • Thank you for the turning off Face ID tip! Putting more friction into impulsive behaviors helps slow them down

A trick I used to reduce time spent on my phone and even the anxiety that turns up in the process is turning my phone off completely. At first it seems scary, but it's just an unfounded fear of missing out. It goes away very quickly though and even when you pick your phone up habitually it's way easier to just go "yeah, it's not working" and put it back down without any notifications popping up etc.
  • @macey9311
Honestly, I thought I tried everything, but I love the rubber band trick and absolutely adore the writing things down. It seems so much easier now
  • @aven_snow
To make the apple screen time app limits more effective you can set a passcode that you have to enter to dismiss it. You can set a random one then write it down in your notes or a piece of paper which adds that extra step that allows you to think before continuing. It works like the longer passcode to unlock your phone or the rubber band in a way.
  • I absolutely loved this video as a medstudent, it is so relatable! However for people struggling with the screen time option on IPhone, the trick is to let someone(my sister for me) set the password for me so there’s no way I would press on the dismiss button anymore…
  • everything you said in this video deserves a prize. congratulations, you gave me the energy to finally realise how bad screen time is for my mind and body. THANK YOU!!!!
  • Bravo on this video! Phones have become such a distraction that I literally have to hide my phone in order to get any work done🙃
  • @KINIIKIO
I just downloaded the app, and went on a bike ride.☺️ I love the idea of having a consequence for using your phone; I don’t wanna kill any cute trees.😧 I hope it will help me focus for my projects, & make me more productive - rather than just wasting my life away on my devices. Thank you for your tips!
