As a Jamaican I will forever be grateful to Asafa, he brought glory to our island and showed whats possible. He paved the way for Usain.

Asafa Powell had the perfect body mechanics for sprinting. His form is flawless from start to finish. The field that he obliterated in this video included the silver and bronze medallists from the olympic final run only a few weeks before this race. If only he had the mental game to go along with this, he might have placed well in the bigger meets. Bolt would still have his number regardless, but by a smaller margin.

Being tall, muscular and still manage to pull such starts, clean quick acceleration and overall just wonderful running technique is not common at all. It's no secret that Powell's worst enemy was his mental status right before the race. Love watching him run.
  • He should have ran like this in every championship final. I know this dude had a mid 9.6 in him. Such a shame he couldn't get out of his own head when it mattered most.

One of the greatest ever runners. Technically and naturally just perfect.

Beautiful sprinter, it is a pleasure to watch Asafa run. His form and technique is remarkable. Big up Mr. Powell!

The most beautiful running style of the top Jamaican sprinters (sorry Blake and Bolt) . Asafa deserves his place amongst the legends of sprinting.

Who else thinks that he has the best form in men's sprinting?
  • @David_7171
His best race ever. When he runs relaxed like this he was so quick. He tensed up at the major meets

Jamaica got the best sprinters, Asafa, Yohan Blake, Bolt, same as the females, Shelley Ann, Elaine Thompson. I bow to these masters. Greetings from Warsaw Poland. 🇯🇲🇵🇱

Insane that no one now is even remotely touching this times. 9.80 won the Olympic title and 9.83 the Olympics championship and also the Diamond League. One of the deepest eras in the history of sport, and dominated by a small island of 3M people. Legendary.

when asafa powell is relaxed he is the greatest of all time when it comes to sprint mechanics and smoothness

Asafa Powell is one of my favourite athlete he has the most sub 10sec times in history and I don't think anyone will come close to that for a long time but he choked at the big meets
  • Still the most beautiful sprinter of all time. Those starts were just mesmerising to watch.
  • @gswonlocks
This is my cousin. London was supposed to be his year until the devastating hamstring injury. Sad to see a potential prospect go down like that

That moment you came 5th at the Olympics and then next week you run 9.72s. Like WTF, man?
  • @joneh9483
The fact that this wasnt a WL speaks volumes about the speed of runners during this period
  • @yplay2
Asafa Powell use to be my favorite 100m runner. Since he started losing his confidence especially against Usain Bolt, it just going downhill for him.
