I collect Zippos over half a lifetime & will firmly state: They should be more accountable for the durability of their finishes & artworks. People are paying for expensive printed designs that fall off in no time, reverting to plain models. Loving those etched & paint filled works from their good old days

Not often someone with under 1000 captures my attention, nice video

Zippos cost $10 in the states for the basic models and a bottle of fuel cost $1.97, love zippos and collect them.

One thing to note, when you mention you need to fill the Zippo "every few days", from my experience, I usually refill mine on the weekend, but I can go for between 12-14 days before it's completely dry, after regular, daily use. I use the Zippo Fuel Canister to speed the process and make it even easier, as that little tank holds EXACTLY one refill's worth of lighter fluid! If you refill often, then just refill until the cotton looks "slushy", and you'll have a little bit of fluid in the lighter body. Just open the fuel canister and dump the extra fluid back into that, top it up, and you're all set for your next refill! I also keep one in the car, since we all know you never run out of fluid when you're sitting at home, with a full can RIGHT THERE! That ends the problem of running out while you're away from home! d=O) Also...were you aware that Zippo also now has several BUTANE INSERTS now? They've got the "Yellow Flame" which is the butane version of the standard insert, the "Yellow Flame Pipe" which is the butane equivalent of the regular pipe insert, and for those who prefer the "blue torch" type lighters, they also made a single torch and a double torch for cigar smokers. They even have a USB-rechargeable "Arc Lighter" insert, as well! I've even found one by "Chief" (on AliExpress) which is a butane DUAL FLAME insert! When you open it, you don't need to hold down the button to keep it lit, as the gas valve is under the cam. This means that you open, flick, and it's lit...just like any other Zippo...BUT...when you push the button, it switches from a regular yellow flame to a blue torch! Let go of the button, it goes back to the regular yellow flame again. Very nifty little design! My "daily use" Zippo is the "Skull With Brain Surprise", and it's still available on most worldwide Zippo sites. I'm sure you'll appreciate the design. d;o) If I weren't a Zippo collector, it'd also be CHEAPER to use the Zippo than disposables, due to the fact that disposables aren't made to last. Even the refillable ones with piezoelectric ignition only usualy last one or two refills before the crystal stops sparking, and they become useless. In one year, a single Zippo will be roughly the same as the number of disposable lighters you'd go through. Every second after that--and for the rest of your life--you're SAVING money that would otherwise have been wasted1 Oh, yeah...and they're cool! 100% agreement there! Bruce Willis would have looked stupid crawling through that air vent in Die Hard, and pulling out a yellow plastic Scripto Tokai, now wouldn't he?

Still good as a lighter in survival situations. From a design point of view; I wish Zippo had looked into refiining the opening 'ping' to be more consistant in tone and bell like (the ring). Also, an auto 'light on opening' mechanism would have been a nice feature to see. In a limited run of Zippos (something like the Thorens)

I don't know if it is as noticeable when lighting a cigarette, but when I use it to light my pipe, I get a foul petrol taste during the first several puffs. I do carry it if I'm likely to be smoking outdoors, but that odor and the constant refilling prevent it from being my primary source of ignition. It's a shame because it is so reliable and iconic. I also have the relatively' new "soft yellow" butane pipe insert from Zippo, which solves the taste problem but has other drawbacks like having to keep the button pressed, limited capacity (or it's leaking - I'm not sure), and non-adjustable flame on the pipe version. It gives you the classic ping at least.

I have a imco they are fun i had a zippo in the 80s now i miss it
  • Stylish, iconic, and cool with an astounding lifetime guarantee but far from being the best

I don't smoke but I EDC a Zippo because it's perfect for lighting the gas fryers where I work with that nice big flame and also the ultimate fidget toy. Nothing is more satisfying than that click

I really like durable, simple things, which is why I've been a fan of Zippo lighters since I was a child. I also have three, which would be enough for three lifetimes, I don't know how I will use them. :D However, it is not true that it is less harmful to the environment than a quality gas lighter. On the one hand, you throw away Zippo liquid cans, and on the other hand, this gasoline-based liquid is more harmful than burning gas.

With right modifications and good care, the fuel can last over 2 weeks
  • @double0783
It will work with just kerosene. You can get it for under 5 bucks a gallon. You don't have to buy lighter fuel at 5 bucks for 4 ounces.

I still have mine that I carried for over fifteen years until I quit smoking in 1987. It's a zodiac model that had the Cancer symbol, lol. I remember it got shot with a BB gun and the guts were stuck inside so I sent it in and they fixed it for free. What a great American product. But I must say watching you smoke almost made me sick, and you need to quit that nasty habit. I wish I'd never started. Note: One big drawback is over filling it and sticking it in your pants pocket and having it leak on your junk: Not pleasant.
