Adding Shadows in Your Painting to Reveal the Light (Lion and the Solider Series)

If you want your painting to have a lot of vibrancy and visual impact, shadows are very important. Knowing where to put in your dark values and shadows, and what color to use is essential. I'll show you how to do it, using my painting of the Lion and the Solider as an example.

Not only that, but we can appreciate the light, once have the dark. The dark emphasizes the light by nature of contrast. It's the same in life: you often have to go through suffering and hardship to truly enjoy and cherish the good things you have been given!

I'm painting with the acrylic glazing technique, where we take a little bit of paint and mix it into a lot of clear matte medium. It helps build up translucency, depth, and vibrancy into your painting. If you haven't tried this technique yet, I'd encourage you to!
