On this episode of Street You Grew Up On, Kerry Washington and Lilly Singh head up North to a diverse and tight-knit community in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada and visit Hupfield Trail. Lilly’s love for her hometown runs so deep that she even named her dog after it! It was in Scarborough where Lilly found her spirit to perform, developed her humor and wit, and not to mention, her impeccable taste for Jamaican Patties. Growing up as a first gen in an immigrant family came with its challenges and cultural barriers. Learning to push past norms in order to thrive became Lilly’s purpose - to disrupt and make changes everywhere she went. It’s this value that solidifies her as the genuine, ambitious, and innovative person in Hollywood that she is. Lilly manifested the life she wanted from the moment she picked up her dad’s camcorder and created her very own Unicorn Island where she’s empowered to tell her stories by her own rules.

About Street You Grew Up On: Simpson Street is where our journey begins. It’s the street that Kerry Washington’s mom grew up on in The Bronx, NY. Through this social series, Kerry Washington interviews artists, influencers, and industry experts to uncover their origin stories, amplify our common humanity and affirm the value of every individuals' journey, beginning with the “street they grew up on...”

I’ve been watching Lilly since her iisuperwomanii days! From her t-shirt references, vision boards, to her skits, her daily vlogs, her move to LA, and now she’s on your show! Makes me nostalgic cause even though I grew up watching her on YouTube, when I got older I wasn’t her demographic! But whenever I see her succeed, it feels like a close friend’s victory! 💖 “one love super woman”! 👍 good interview Kerry!!
  • @IconVlog.
I remember when her grandfather passed. It was the first time we the audience could feel how sad she was cause she was usually making us laugh. The montage at the end of the video makes me cry every time. 1 ❤️
  • So amazing to see how Lilly how grown into the person she’s constantly discovering and choosing to be.. it’s inspiring.
  • I can’t believe it was the Jamaican Pattie’s that made her cry. Omg, i laughed so hard at that part.
  • Yes Lilly!!!! Shouting out Malvern! I still remember you as a kid when we used to come play basketball on your driveway and then when you and the rest of the kids used to come swim in our pool. You have really grown all the way up. Well done on your accomplishments. Hupfield Trail!!!!
  • Thanks Kerry for hosting Lilly. I am inspired by you both at 62 years old. <3
  • @IconVlog.

When lilly talked about her grandfather as her favourite person and the fond memories she has with it really struck a cord with mee. As I lost my grandpa and I miss the memories with him. I love how lilly bought up the the sweet memories of him with a smile 😃 this just shows the growth and all the healing she has done!! We love you lilly ❤️ I love her since her iisuperwomanii days!!

I love how free spirited she is. She is also such a vibe but a smart ass too❤. Thumbs up Kerry
  • This is so wholesome. But being a Jamaican Living in Canada Lilly is right about the Pilon, not traffic cone. Each part of the world is so rich and blessed. It's life-changing when you are exposed to different cultures and ways of living.
  • I can tell you I am way older than the normal Lilly demographic. I found her in a strange time in my life and I feasted on her videos from when Trump first got elected and the skit she did on that until she made the move to LA and got her own talk show!! All of her acheivements have been a blessing to see and being a fan of hers just enriches my mine and other's world. She is a beautiful soul and I hope she continues to become a major major star and influencer!! All the way from Oklahoma here!!

Had the pleasure of meeting your parents at a Jamaica Independence Event a few years ago...a beautiful down to earth, couple! . FYI, I have tasted many patties, but in my humble opinion so far, Tastees in Brooklyn is the closest in look and taste to the ones in Jamaica! So proud of you for representing Jamaica Brand so well :)
