Which Teams Should The Big Ten Add? | Big Ten Football 2024

Published 2024-05-11
On this cut of Touchdown Talk with College Football with Sam, ‪@BIG10_Quicktalk‬ and I discuss our thoughts on the eventual expansion of the Big Ten conference. Which teams should the Big Ten add? We think Florida State is an absolute no-brainer, along with their ACC rival the Miami Hurricanes. Both Florida State Football and Miami Football are rich with resources, recruiting pipelines, and an upward trajectory related to on-field success. Utah Football and Clemson Football are other successful programs that would fit well. There is always Notre Dame, too, but if they wanted to join they probably would have struck a deal already. We talk about all of this and more in this episode of College Football with Sam. Make sure to comment so I can interact with you and answer any questions you have!

Utah's DC Morgan Scaley is the presumed defacto replacement coach when coach Whitt retires. He's been with Coach Whitt forever and he'll continue the consistency.
  • See you soon Notre Dame! I am inevitable. Sincerely, The Big Ten
  • With the addition of Washington, Oregon, USC and UCLA I think those four are equal to or slightly greater than Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC. Adding FSU and Miami will add huge value. ND being in Indiana, geographically belongs in the B1G and has rivalry’s with Ohio State, Michigan and USC.

Totally agree Miami is the better choice than Clemson. Miami was the better football program through the 80s 90s and early 2000s. 5 Titles compared to 3. Also Clemson wasn't relevant until 2015 . You have to go back to 81 for their 1st title. Miami has been irrelevant for the past 20 yrs and are still considered better than Clemson

Its aready in its twlight, once the big ten gets a foothold in Florida the SECs day of dominance will be over.
  • @TheLAGopher
The SEC dominated college football for many years by being a mini NFL. Academic standards were not enforced and winning football games was the priority over education.
  • Notre Dame currently receives 17 million from the ACC and approximately 50 million from NBC. If the ACC implodes and puts that 17m in jeopardy and they have no path to make it up then, and I think only then, will they consider joining a conference. Also, going forward, if they can't keep up with the Big 10 and SEC in that base 50m, then they will also consider joining a conference. There are schools who will always want to play ND, independent or not.

The B1G is on track for 24 schools and will end up in 4 divisions. Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal, either Clemson or Ga Tech the Atlanta market. The big 12 will make it through and get whatever is leftover from the B1G and SEC. Notre Dame eventually won’t have a choice but to join a conference. To get them the B1G will true Cal and Stanford. They already fit education wise with the B1G.

Hey guys. SEC fan here. Just found your channel. Great show. Great content. I’ll definitely come back and watch more.
  • @Jralford8
In what world is the Big 12 better than the ACC?
  • You do know that the t.v money isn’t infinite. Big10 teams will have to take a pay cut. I’m pretty sure no team in the Big 10 wants to did that.
  • @tysonas1
B1G needs a Super Conference of 24-25 teams in either 6-4 team divisions or 5-5 team; the playoffs would be the Division winners plus the next 2 or 3 for a 8 team field. A quarter then semi and a Championship. The quarter at the top division winners, then a final four at two cities and then a Championship at another city.
  • SEC is interested in adding basketball schools. UNC, Virginia, Kansas, Duke. Now Clemson seems to be a solid lock for the SEC, but it's why Sankey has been talkikng so much basketball. NIL is a game changer for basketball and the tournament made over a billion dollars this year. Another reason Sankey wants to expand it.
  • @Jon_FM
I said it before and will say it again here, to me Utah should have been with Washington and Oregon, for the regional points you made and for their actual rivalries with USC and Oregon. Are they the first choice, well USC and Utah flat out hate each other and just as they were reaching a new height they kind of got left at the alter. those games in October were great. (also because UCLA has largely been bad since Utah entered the PAC 12) I get why the Big 10 were dubious but honestly they are an obvious addition. Hopefully over the course of the next few years being regulars in the CFP will help them hit even higher levels of exposure and the arguments will stop about whether the Utes are a good TV school.
  • @TheMRK1980
Ultimately it's going to be two super conferences. B1G and SEC
  • @MrZzyzxx
Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, and Notre Dame .................. all for recruiting oomph
  • @troywest7045
I was under the impression school Presidents voted on expansion, not the commissioner. That could make a big difference, since i don't think the school Presidents would be as receptive to certain schools as a commissioner might be. It will also be interesting to see what the expansion schools are offered as far as shares till the next media deal.
  • @dionpryor369
Hopefully we don't take any more. Teams were more visible in much smaller conferences..now after the top 6 nobody will utter your teams name. And if you're 12 thru 18 you must fire your coach and become desperate or risk getting kicked out .
