I love this analogy. I am severely insulin resistant and very frustrated. These videos are really helping me. My healthy whole eating is starting to work with my long, steady walks and strength training. I have lost 100 pounds, but have another 60 to go.
  • If this man was my science teacher I swear I would have passed with flying colours 😀

As a retired educator, I think you are an excellent teacher. I finally understand how IR works... Thank you!
  • I am 30 year old guy.. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in Dec 2022.. when the first time I got tested my A1C was 11.5.. I was put on Metformin first 2 months and then on Janumet 1000 mg daily dose, three months later my A1C is 5.9!!! This is due to combination of exercise (only walking 20 mins avg daily), healthy diet (watching my Carbs intake), more fibers and green veggies. My point is.. if we know the mechanism behind these diseases, which is lucidly and interestingly explained by Dr. Sten(thanks to him), helps control your blood sugar and keep things in check.. My goal is to get off medication and to be able to balance demand and supply of blood sugar and the insulin... cheers!!!!
  • By speaking slowly and clearly, and using figurative language effectively here, you are able to simplify this topic. Your method aids not only in the understanding of insulin resistance, but also in remembering the details of what is actually going on between the cells and insulin. I will always remember the frustrated cells and the annoying salesman!!
  • I was diagnosed with T2D in 2010 and was put on Metformin. Last fall, I was put on insulin injections. Since that time, I've gained 20 lbs and now, thanks to your video, I truly understand what's going on and how IR works. Thank for the explanation and content. I know what I need to do to get IR reversed and back down to a more healthy weight. God Bless.
  • Very clear analogy on insulin resistance. I have learned a lot from your videos. I can't stop watching even if it''s long. You''re undoubtedly a good teacher. You have earned my respect.(new subscriber). You deserve to teach with your credentials and track records.

I'm pretty sure blood pressure drugs increased my insulin resistance and made me diabetic; ironically, driving me to LCHF/IF, in which I reversed the diabetes, and am still working on lowering my insulin resistance, with a fasting insulin around 8.5. If the doctor had tested my fasting insulin when I was diagnosed with a hypertensive crisis and educated me in what it meant, I would have had a three-year head start over my current situation, and probably never would have experienced the same level of neuropathy and other symptoms.

Thank you so much Dr. Ekberg for the explanation of how our cells develop insulin resistance. I loved the illustration you used of the little "salesman" and the "house cell". It just cannot clearer than this. I'm learning a lot watching your videos. Hopefully, I can reverse my pre-diabetes, improve my A-1C, and once and for all lose the extra weight that I've been carrying for years.

Dr. Ekberg, you are a master teacher. Thank you for making your lessons accessible for regular non-medically trained folks like me. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.
  • @DonyaLane
Brilliant descriptions and analogy! I really hope that those who think ACV is going to mitigate their high carb diet will watch this lesson.
  • @Mattthemerciful
I am always impressed with how well Dr. Ekberg communicates the information. Great teacher!
  • @MaryJohanna
This is a wonderful description on how Insulin Resistence works. Gosh why can't our doctors do this instead of presribing $$$ drugs, also why are so many people totally accepting their diabetes 2 and not run to the library to start learning... I went to Costco the other day and one big lane of parking was dedicated tohandicapped parking. Used to be elderly frail people now you see most people parking there extremely obese then usung the handicapped shopping carts that the store also has many of, at 10 that I counted. Diabetes T2 is a epidemic in America equal to the opioid addiction.

  • @curlytops103
This video answered my month long question of what truly insulin resistance means. The very fun part is explaining it using the "salesman" thing 😅. You are truly my best teacher when it comes to lc and IF. Very informative and always easy to understand. God bless you always, Doc... 😍
  • @marianne1959
I am binge watching your videos! You started me on this journey, this new way of eating/living . I do believe you've saved my life...at age 62 at least extended it ..lol. I cannot believe what I was taught when first diagnosed with T2D. I have stopped the Metformin , lost 30 lbs in 3 months so far and feel 20 yrs younger! Have about 40 more lbs to lose but I am not ever feeling deprived as a former carb junkie. Thank you so much!
  • @joshuat770
Dr. Ekberg the way you used Insulin as a sales person and the entire example to explain insulin resistance has helped me really understand. I've watched some of your videos and this one I really like because of the example. All of your videos are very helpful to me in understanding how my body works. Thank you!
