In 1948, if any Arabs remained in Israel, they were granted full citizenship in Israel and all the privileges of being an Israeli citizen. Many if not most Arabs that fled to other Arab nations were not granted citizenship but remained "refugees" for decades and some remain "refugees" today. And many of these Arabs are also known as Palestinians and live under the authority of fellow Arabs in the West Bank (under the Palestinian Authority) and Gaza (under Hamas).
