My attempt at recreating Yoneyama Mai’s ‘2020.04.13’ illustration. I wanted to understand her workflow, brushwork, coloring techniques, and mainly how did Yoneyama create the final pink pastel look? What adjustment layers did she used? So I followed along with her illustration timelapse video to find out the artist's secrets.

Hello the grain is added using 50% gray on overlay then grain. It's a very old technique people use. Since at 50% grey on overlay the value will not change at all and so does color since it is grey on overlay. Only the grain will show up after filter since the grain have different value than 50% grey

I did not expect you to do a video on yoneyama mai since her style is very unique and honestly hard to follow
  • 5:51 the layer she was using is the color balance layer in CSP; it basically allows you to control the colors in shadows, half-tones, and highlight. it's very useful if you feel your image is ruled by one strong color(think: an image filter), playing around with it can drastically change the...well, balance of colors in the image!
  • Being able to breaking it down and explain it in a simple way to understand, you re amazing my friend! Love to see more of your video❤
