The Fox Body Mustang set the template for all future Ford Mustangs. Today, Ford's V8 powered flagship pony car uses the same balance of fuel efficiency and power that the Foxbody set over 30 years ago. It was the muscle car that finally pulled Ford out of the hangover following the 70's oil crisis. All it took was space age computer technology, wind tunnels, and sticking a cat in the exhaust. With all of these things the Foxy body is Ford’s greatest underdog... underfox? UNDERFOX!

I feel like this is a total smart ass answer but, Tesla’s don’t have EFI right? Lol
  • Ford with 16bit intel cpu and 1kB of ram: run a 8 cylinder engine. My computer with 64-bit cpu and 8GB of ram: crash when i open chrome
  • The fox body: when Ford's designers only have a straight edge and a protractor.

I wish Donut Media existed back when i was in highschool, wouldve appreciated my physics class a lot more. If teachers were half as enthusiastic as these guys, classes would be awesome
  • Our Dads can adjust the Throttle, timing, etc; by just hearing it. Truly impressive

Obviously we miss Bart, but Big J here has grown on me quite quickly. I’d love to see a collaboration episode where Bart comes back for a time and does an episode with J

The mechanic Tavarish works with, Jerod (?) Pink once called a carburetor a "controlled fuel leak". Very good description.

They did actually have a form of fuel injection in '85 which was tbi (throttle body injection). They didn't have only a carb until '86, they did have a form of injection

Hey Donut, big fan here and an engineer myself. After watching half this video, I feel like I need to tell you guys you need to fact check your info you are sharing. First off, general motors designed and implemented sequential fuel injection first in the early 90s. Ford did not have the technology to do a sequential fuel injection until 1996. The EECV4 was not capable of handling eight independent injectors and timing eight independent cylinders for the correct amount of fuel as you guys stated in your video. The fuel injected 5.0L is a bank fire fuel injection system, meaning the left bank will fire all four injectors, then the right bank will fire all four injectors. For sequential fuel injection to work, you need high resolution tone rings on the cam and crank. You need to have references for each cylinder in order to meter fuel correctly to those cylinders. The 5.0L uses a 1 tooth ring for the camshaft (distributor) and no crankshaft sensor.

That "p" in the Drag Equation should've been a Rho "ρ"... Rho is density, p is pressure.

My first 3 cars were fox bodies. I learned everything I know today about cars from working on these. They will always hold a special place in my heart.

The family car when I was little was an '86 GT, dark grey paint and grey, red-piped interior. Spent many road trips laying down in the fastback. Would have been my first car, but my mom sold it when I was 13 to buy her 2nd husband a project Jeep. I'm totally not still bitter about it 20+ years later.
