Wonderful stories from survivors. My late Mother Launa was born in 1917 and contacted polio in 1922 outbreak when she lived in Thebarton, S.A. She had boots fitted and adjusted at Children's Hospital. Walked to Thebarton Primary School. Sir Henry Newland, Orthopaedic Surgeon, operated twice on each foot to cut sinews. Launa could then wear shop shoes which she padded with insoles and wore 3 pairs of stockings until her stroke disabled her again at aged 68 years, then in a wheelchair and lived to 100 years. So proud of her efforts during her lifetime.
