More nations likely to follow Ireland, Spain and Norway in recognising a Palestinian state: Analyst

Ireland, Spain and Norway said earlier this week that they would recognise a Palestinian state, which does not exist in practice. This prompted United States President Joe Biden to reiterate his belief that a Palestinian state should be achieved through negotiations, not unilateral recognition. Dr Simon Frankel Pratt, political science lecturer from the University of Melbourne, tells CNA’s Asia First that this reflects a growing dissatisfaction among Israel’s partners with the stagnated state of the peace process. Dr Pratt believes other European nations will recognise a Palestinian state and increase the diplomatic pressure on Israel.

What the recent episodes on Gaza show is that the UN needs immediate surgery to become healthy by cutting out the cancer cells that have been creating confusion in international law that should be principled on humanity than political manipulation.
  • IRELAND IS NOT AN ISRASLI ALLY, we are a neutral nation our only side is the side of humanity

For once, a relatively honest and unbiased interview session from CNA despite the usual nonsensical questions from Arnold Gay.

Eventually, it has to be a joint decision between Israel and the Arabs who want a separate Palestine state. The Arabs had rejected the two-state solution five times!
  • We Hope that both South Korea and Japan will follow suit to recognized Palestine as Independent State
  • Before recognizing Palestine, these countries should insist on release of hostages and there could be peace. Palestinians have to first accept the existence of Israel before anything else for two states solution. If Europeans recognize Palestine and Palestinians dont recognize Israel, it could mean Europeans also derecognize Israel!!! Or that is how it could look for Israeli people.

The real question is whether Palestine and its masters recognise that they are a state within the borders as they are at present i.e. along with the state of Israel as a sovereign state in the region.

5:33 he couldn't even hide his disdain for the Palestinians. Not quite in the same position as the Israelis?? Oh please... How many Israelis died on the 7th of October? The combined number of Palestinian civilians who have been killed by Israel since 1948 has far surpassed that number. There is no proportionality at all.

Kudos to Ireland, Spain and Norway for standing up. We need more countries like them. To be a negotiating party, you must be recognized first.
