  • I am always surprised by the number of tasks that Ahmed executes on his pc, my pc only with a photoshop window is on fire 😂

i used to have this issue before aswell, the reason for why my stuff ended up like that was because i treated the halftones as the gradiation between light and shadow, basically the edge between the two, and so i shrunk the value gap in order to make it easier to transition between values, however that shit don't work, all it does is compress values. what i learned later on is that half tones is a part of the light family and working with half tones as a grouping within the light instead of being the bridge between light and shadow lets you actually distinguish shadow values from light values a lot more and a lot easier. now i'm not sure that's why they had that issue, but that's the reason i had issues like that. and the only reason for why that clicked for me in that way was because i was trying to simplify my sketches so i wouldn't needlessly try to render basic throwaway sketches for hours. and it took quite some time to figure out how many values and what values i can leave out, but in that it also showed my lack of knowledge of how halftones worked. in which i researched and came upon marco buccis tutorial (Light and Shadow - 10 Minutes To Better Painting) and another tutorial i can't remember who's but it explained the edge between shadow and light very well by having this single plane rotate and show how less light it received at different angles and disproving my thought of how gradient it would be, so it stayed fairly the same, like it lost about 20% light or luminosity or whatever you want to call it at most rotating almost completely away from the light source. but ever since then i've been basically using groupings of values instead of trying to use gradiation to connect them all. as for my sketches, they are now fast all hell boiiii, because it's basically just sketch, fill out shadow shape, add some half tone to convey a bit of form if i want to.

I've really enjoyed watching these clips from your classes, you've provided some very practical insights. Just wanted to thank you for sharing them.
  • @chedsalvia6270
also some nice "surprise tips" in your videos, thank you!
  • @dgooshe
as weird as it is, the squinting to see the general structure of light shapes is super super useful.. Along with zooming out to make sure it reads well! Struggled a lot with light in the last but just applying those 2 things made a massive difference

Wonder how many clips from class are there in total?
  • I do miss painting I do miss using like one brush and pay and everything because it gives a nice texture and it helps me understand where my problems are instead of me starting with big shapes and then doing smaller shapes like yeah that's it easier way but I like with the pain or look it gives it much more of a different feel compared to all my others I would love to actually go back and actually paint something obviously digital paint it but it's just the fact that I thought I've got to be in the motivation to actually sit down and actually spend about 8 hours and out to just paint a portrait like I wanna spend that to 24-hours and do it how I found it easy way of doing it it and is great but then obviously I get different results in one resort I get like a kind of clothes to realism and I'm with the painter you look I get the same thing but just with more clarity and that you can see what the lines I've done you know I mean I don't know like there's loads away is a pain I wish I could like paint away I paint no I mean I wish I could brush the way a pain but I can paint when I can't brush no I can't pay and I can brush but I can't come back in together and that is either washing or receiver painting when I try to combine together it just ruins everything somebody's had to shop so measure to stuffed and it looks like a mess because I have to go one way I have to have to go using a watercolour brush and go all in with doing lines and paying and doing all the small detail to make it a bigger picture or I can go the other out and used the watercolor wet and do bigger strongest shapes and informally make it smaller with or using Airbus and I can't blame them together because it gets too mushy

Hi, so I have a question, I want to get better at proportions and faces etc but sketching is a struggle. I’ve seen your sketching videos and you don’t layer so many things underneath like a skull or boxes and you just go straight into the face or arms etc, but I’m not sure how I can do that myself. Like how do I study faces when it just keeps ending up the same, if you get what I mean?

Interesting is Ahmed also miss-clicking those icons? I find putting programs there high risk high reward, like you click the wrong thing and loosing so much of prescious time, closing, running another program. Sometimes it's just too much man, desctop is much safer, you can take yor time cancel double-clicking motion you know.
