Judging from the items in your workspace ("Knight Rider - The Ultimate Collection"...) you seemingly bring the right mixture of intellect and insanity. Have my sub.

30k subscribers in under one month with only a handful of videos. That's beyond phenomenal growth. Most people don't get there in years, let alone weeks. Granted it's a pretty girl, but she's not using it to thirst trap. This is real content. Much respect for that. 👍

Fun fact: The ET game was developed by one guy in just 5 weeks. It was on a super tight schedule to meet christmas deadlines. People have actually decompiled the original game to fix some of it's shortcomings.

Wow! Typing in programs from magazines and books are how I got in to programming back when I was 10. It’s great to see a young person appreciating the old school way of learning programming - I think there’s definitely a reward for spending the time, to type a program rather than just downloading and running. I look forward to seeing more videos from you, Kari.
  • Don't worry about the line frequency whine, you''ll lose the ability to hear it in about 20 years. I worked in a TV repair shop from the age of 15 and it used to drive me mad.

The documentary "Atari: Game Over" is about the 2014 excavation of the landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where thousands of product units of all kinds (cartridges, joysticks, etc.) were disposed of by Atari in 1983 following the 1983 video game crash, including the singlehanded rush making of "E.T." by Howard Scott Warshaw. Its a fascinating watch.

Really nice first video. No gimmicks, good quality audio, well lit, framed and edited video. I appreciate especially that the video doesn't overstay its welcome and drag it on.

Very well done, Kari. In the early 90s I really wanted an NES. Santa gave me an Atari 2600 instead. I still had fun with the console until I bought my first PC in 1994.

I always thought the design of the 2600 Jr was absolutely wonderful. Has an almost ageless quality to it.

01:17 Welcome to every Atari joystick ever. I’m convinced Atari literally had an infestation of Chihuahuas at all of the factories resulting in every joystick being chewed up, sticky, & definitely janky … straight out of the package.

Saying this as an avid film-puller-offer: DON'T PULL OFF THAT FILM! If it's lasted 40 years without being removed, it's historical. As far as I'm concerned, it's meant to be there!

Atari 2600 was me and my brothers first ever gaming console in the mid-to-late 80's. The only time my dad has ever played a video game in his life was back then when me, my brother, and my dad took turns playing River Raid. :D Some nice memories.
  • Nice first video! You are engaging and funny(ET Atari game), the audio quality is good and I enjoyed the concise delivery. Your workshop looks like fun btw 😃
  • @MistaGoodbytes
Great video! The Atari looks in good condition, part of me would really want to remove that protective film though 😄

I loved my 2600 back in the day. At the time it felt magical.

If I were you I would play some modern homebrew games on that. There's great remakes of Donkey Kong, Bosconian and Wizard of Wor, to name a few.

I am really jealous of that clear case phone, they need to bring back that banger design

My grandparents (who lived right below us in a two-family home) were the first to get an Atari 2600 in the late 70s. Actually, they got a Sears branded console, which came with a rebranded version of Air Sea Battle called Target Fun. The Atari was a fixture in their home for many years, even long after newer, more advanced systems came out. My grandfather, who was the one who bought it in the first place, would run up his nose at anything even the slightest bit more complicated? I also had an Intellivision and he wouldn't touch it because he said the controller had too many buttons. Anyway, they wore out a couple Atari 2600s along the way, and their last one was a 2600 Jr. As I recall, the cartridge slot was a tiny bit smaller. All games by Atari, Activision, Imagine, Mattel, etc, fit fine, but I had a really hard time plugging in games by Tigervision, such as Miner 2049er and Polaris, and Springer. As for the reliability of Atari consoles, a few years ago, I found a plastic bin full of Atari and Colecovision stuff that had been put out for bulk trash pickup. It had rained and there was some water in the bottom of the bin. I took it all home and two out of the three Atari 2600s worked. I forget what was wrong with third one. The Colecovision didn't work properly, though ironically, it had the System Changer module with it, that let you play Atari 2600 games, and that DID work. It worked with that Colecovision.

Excellent! It's neat to catch a glimpse of your latest acquisition. I do hope to see more in the future - I've been impressed with the collection of tech you've amassed; there's a lot of tech I remember from when I was growing up and it's great to see it in the hands of someone that appreciates it. As for the protective covering - if it were me, I'd leave it on. But, then, it wouldn't take long for one of my kids to come around and remove it. 😬
