Best recipe for carp: After cleaning, bake on pine board at 350 for a half hour. When its done, take it out of the oven, throw the carp away, and eat the pine board.

I caught a flat or shovelhead when I was 10 or 11, that was a little over 32 pounds in Lake Rudy, Sunman In. I caught it on a sears open bale light weight with six pound test mono. It took me nearly an hour to bring it in with my Dad cheering me on. It was a big deal to me and even now at the age of 72, I can still feel its fight.

They have always been called trash fish where I live.
  • Originally from south Texas were we used to catch huge common carp. Move to Kansas and the people here through them out of the lake. I like catching carp for food, they are really good. Fishing with friends one day and I caught a 30 Inch or so and kept him. They thought I was crazy when I cleaned it to eat. I served it first no one the wiser. Evening camp fire I asked everyone if they enjoyed dinner, all said yes and how good it was. Wait till I cook the bass tomorrow, the look on there faces was priceless.

In europe they use whole young carps (2lbs) as living bait for european catfish, with a balloon clipped to the line as a swimmer. But european catfish gets up to 8 ft plus, weighing 200-300lbs. Smoked carp is good and cooked carp so too. Great vid again, awsome fishing! Greets from germany

We use live carp for flathead bait. Carp's roughly up to one pound is what we use. I ain't got nothing but love for you brother. Tight lines!

Caught carp in the 1960's. My friend and I would throw them on the bank. One summer an old black woman asked what we did with the carp. She then said give them to her and she would pay us a penny a pound. We found out she would smoke it and selling it to the neighbors for 10 cents a pound from her little store. Made between a dollar or two when carp fishing.
  • I love catching carp but I have no problem with people using them for bait. As long as you're following your local regulations, I think people should mind their own business!
  • @SCUMDOGFISHING
I don't know why people have a problem seeing an invasive species of fish used as bait. Nobody thinks twice when you cut up a bluegill, or skipjack WTF! 🤘

I lived on the Brazos river for 9 years. I spent many hours soaking cut baits , minnows , perch , but when I could find a 6 inch + carp ,many times it wouldn't even make it to the bottom before a big flathead picked it up.

I am an avid Carp and Cat fisherman. I think some people, from both sides, are just plain crazy. No need to hate it, no need to love it that much. I will always fish for them because they fight much harder than catfish. I will not have any issue eating them, or use them as bait. Dont care for those who hate them, dont care for them who'd have heart attack hearing about eating/using as bait. Lastly, its your fish. Do what you please. Thats my motto.
