Not only did the makers of 'Gumball' poke fun at 'Miracle Star', they also poked fun at the fanart made by their fans. They didn't do it in a very demeaning way, but just have a laugh about it. Man, I love this show so much! After learning that 'The Copycats' was supposed to make fun of a rip-off, it makes watching the episode better!

Anais not having a doppelganger is probably one of the best jokes Gumball ever made.

It was so clever to use Anais as the final piece in the puzzle, not only because there was no copycat of her, but because she’s the only one small enough to unlatch the truck. I always wondered why she was my favorite character when I was little...

Gua Gua (Darwin’s knockoff) got renamed to Ribbit in “The Knockoffs”, which I find kinda clever, since “guagua” iirc in Chinese is an onomatopoeia for the sound a frog makes, like “ribbit”. Kiki got renamed to Chi Chi though, and I’m not sure why.

One thing I liked about Gumball was how it bridged the gap between one-off episodes and and over arching stories, like how Tina eased up a little to Gumball and Darwin in later episodes after the one where they finally got to know each other a bit more and made up for rivalries they had in the past, just to name one example. That direction with how the show's episodes were structured and plotted out really lend itself to the overall Advent-Garde style Gumball was known for.

Best thing that Saber didn't mention is that the original storyboards for The Copycats actually used the original Miracle Star character designs for the Copycat family. Which means that the attack could've been EVEN more direct.

I never realized the context of copycats but im not suprised with how it's such a clever show. The evolution of CN was a wild ride too... but all good things must come to an end lol

I worked on a Chinese show, back in 2015. The way you went around the brother sister thing is by making them twins. You were allowed to keep your twins during the one child policy. Which in 2015 when I worked on Sibe, I think in cities was relaxed. Our show was set in the 90s Shanghai so that was why we had to resort to that.

How to prevent China from touching your copyrighted material: plaster “Free Tibet” and “Taiwan is a country” on all your material. They wouldn’t touch that if their lives depended on it.

Fun fact: In an episode of AWOG, they actually made a reference to the rip off kung-foo panda movie.

Anais being the one to save them is actually such a brilliant play.

Remember that Darwin isn't a kid, but a pet that grew legs. Did the analogue for Darwin also develop in this way? Could it be that the Anais analogue did exist but was removed from the family when Gua Gua came around because China values sons more than daughters, and that's what Gumball was hinting at by her blurred out photo on the family profile page? This has pretty dark potential.

I think you forgot one very important thing about why Warner didn't bother to sue them. You might be right with what you said about it not being worth the effort but I'm sure there is a even bigger and more important reason. The chinese market is HUGE when it comes to movie theater releases and the chinese government probably told Warner they could no longer show their movies in China if they want compensation for the Gumball rip-off.
