  • As an artist and drummer this is one of my favorite Drum Department episodes! Very educational and inspirational to both my art and music. I have a Digitech Vocal Processor that I am definitely going to hook up to my electronic drums to experiment with that after watching this. I never would have thought of doing this until now. Thank you!
  • Aric Improta is the most creative drummer on the planet, period. I am inspired every time I watch him play drums or even just listen to him talk about drumming. I love how 2001: A Space Odyssey motivated him to make a cymbal "sing" in his Meinl solo. (By the way, if you'r ereading this comment and you haven't seen "Blur-Lights in the Videodrome," you need to watch it, like, now. It's jaw-dropping.)

The challenge was a fantastic exercise in art interpretation
  • It always changes the whole vibe when it's the drum avenger (Aka ARIC IMPROTA) making an appearance 🤘🏻
  • @NikkLiberos
Well, I did not know that the synthy parts in Night Verses was all him with octapads and effects. He is an even more mind-blowing drummer than I initially thought.

I think Aric is the BEST drummer in the world. He's heavy yet very light, his fills and polyrhythms are VERY original and snazzy. His style is unlike any other I've seen and his solos are extremely next level. Watch "Copper Wasp" or "Blur-Lights in the Videodrome" He's the best...period.

At 11:40 the painting in question is by Chinese artist Li Gongnian done in 1120-ish. I believe it is a detail as most Chinese paintings would depict the entire landscape and there would be a number of chop-seal stamps throughout one area of the work.

My god, man... what a legend!

someone needs to get this man an XLR mute pedal to put off the side of his hi hat pedal for that mic fx rig.

Can you guys please get the drummer from Incubus on one of your specials? Thank you❤

This is spectacular! I'm an artist and a very beginner drummer....what inspiration! ❤❤❤

This was super awesome and fun to watch! Synesthesia is more diverse and complex than just seeing sounds as colors :) It's essentially when sensory input/experience bleeds over from one sense to another. I sometimes taste sound, or feel it as a texture in my mouth. People might experience certain words, letters or numbers as having specific colors; that seems to be another common manifestation. Some "sensory bleeds" seem to be more common than others, but in theory, any combination could be possible.

This dude is so fucking creative. At the drop of a hat just comes up with grooves.
