Prepare yourself! ...for the other Mortal Kombat movie from 1995... that nobody wanted! On this episode of Cinemassacre Rental Reviews the guys Test Their Might against Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins. It's a 3D and 2D animated movie that came out before the live action film. It was supposed to be a tie-in for the movie, but doesn't make any sense and looks like garbage. The 3D animated Reptile in the real movie looks better.

"There's too much violence. Mortal kombat has positive messages." the 90s were such a wild ride.

"A darker shade of Goro" is my favourite metal album.

I actually remember renting this from the video store as a kid and being impressed by the computer animation. Looking back, that seems so funny.

This shit makes the MK4 cutscenes look like veritable cinematic masterpieces... ...even the N64 ones.

The code 466-466 = Unlimited Run What a great code!
  • "I can't stand watching things on my computer" - Man who makes things people watch on their computer

My dad took me to the MK show when it came to our city and i was only about 6 and it was so loud and crazy and so much stuff going on that I pissed my pants lol
  • I made my dad buy this vhs at a CVS in 2003 when I was 8. He watched in anger saying "I told you it was gonna suck". I watched laughing my ass off. Good memories.

Imagine if Toy Story never happened, or turned out looking like this. Where would we be today? Cinema's legacy would be forever dented if this was all we had for CGI animation.

205-205 is the code to fight Smoke. I still remember after all these years. 😂

The Sub-Zero guy in the back during that interview... wow. Everyone in that studio were lucky he didn't have the courage to pull that gun he was clearly hiding behind his back. XD

I remember renting this as a kid and was so pumped to see this. Never have I tried to run away from a decision and VHS rental faster than this. I think I returned this back to the store as soon as I watched it. Some memories of money and time you wasted stay with you forever.

In the mk tour interview it looks like they just taped bananas to scorpion’s face

Proud to say I sat front row at the Mortal Kombat live show. Most of the live show was pre-taped audio that the martial artists would sort of mouth and then do the choreographed fights as I recall. I loved MK so much I even had this movie featured in the video. Good stuff !

Kieran's vocal impression of Raiden at the end was eerily perfect...
  • I remember begging my mom to buy this for me because I wanted to codes. That was the last time I begged my parents for anything.

I watched the absolute fuck out of this when I was a kid and ALWAYS loved that dude standing there with the pose and that Johnny Cage shuffle back walk. Man good times. Thanks for making me feel unnecessarily nostalgic today

I have to say this animation is one of my guilty pleasures, I’ve watched it as a kid and actually enjoyed back then.
