Stellantis is About to Break my Heart with Chrysler?

After Stellantis' poor 2nd quarter financials, CEO Tavares said if brands weren't profitable they'd be cut.
Chrysler wasn't named, but it's obvious that was one of the ones he was talking about. When you have 1 product and the company isn't sending you any new ones.... *sigh*.
I'm an optimist. I've seen Stellantis and their US brands as a "glass half full" with investment in product coming. A revitalization of Chrysler and Dodge!
And now, with one statement, Tavares has undercut 3.5 years of hope.

Not a surprise if they ax Chrysler, it's been on life support for a couple years now.

Hornet was a loser from day one like the 200 was. Overpriced junk

Chrysler right now is like our father on life support. We have had amazing memories with him and truly wonderful times, some amazing and some bad memories here and there but he is an amazing person, but as long as he exist, he will continue to suffer and get worse and worse by the day, so we can either wait for one day for a magical medicine to arrive to fix his problem, or we wish him farewell in a sweet way and unplug his life support, ending his suffering.
  • Stellantis made a HUGE mistake rebadging the Alfa Romeo Tonale as the Dodge Hornet. Great way to cheapen the Alfa brand. In addition, they should fold Ram back into Dodge.

I've had lots of Mopar cars over the years. I still have a '76 Dodge Aspen SE Sedan with a 318; and a beautiful '78 Chrysler Cordoba with a brilliant 360; very quick and both are incredibly comfortable and reliable. Even here in the UK we love Mopar

I think its ridiculous to axe Chrysler when they never ever had a chance. Nobody would invest into giving them new prodocts. I dont understand why that EV Wagoneer didnt get thrown to Chrysler. Just change the front. It doesn't even look like a Jeep
  • If I was FIAT’s CEO, my lineup would be this: FIAT makes economy cars and competes with Volkswagen/Opel/Mini/etc. I would then have Lancia as the luxury brand and have them compete with Audi. I would have ALFA Romeo be a “budget exotic sports car” brand that competes with Porsche. I would have Maserati be a full on Exotic Supercar brand that competes with Lamborghini/Ferrari. I would have bought Isotta Fraschini and have them as a Ultra-Luxury brand to compete with Bentley/Rolls-Royce/Maybach/etc.

Im 37 and i remember the last true glory days of Chrysler the old Chrysler corp was the 1990s. There sales were great! They had the cab forward sedans. The Durango and the highly sucessful dodge plymouth chrysler mini vans. Dodge rams and of course the Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. Even Chrysler uaw workers werw getting great profit sharing checks. My dad worked for GM and Chrysler guys were getting bigger checks then GM workers. Chryslers last glory days!
  • Disgusting… I was really hoping on Stellantis but I could smell this ever since they killed the 300 and Challenger/Charger. In reality I think Peugeot only had the budget to restructure the Fiat side including Jeep/Ram, but not quite enough capital to sustain the restructuring of Dodge, Lancia, and Chrysler. It’s a shame because when Stellantis should’ve been making more generic cars to be shared across all brands they gave huge chunks of money to a few brands to make the most unecessary low volume niche cars while they let the other brands starve. Stellantis should at least give one billion dollars to Chrysler to help them get at least a couple new products. And they need to narrow down Jeep because it’s overstepping in Dodge and Chrysler territory. And get new leadership for Chrysler because that woman who’s CEO of Chrysler is just a sitting pig with no plan ahead on what to actually do to revive the plan. They keep saying Chrysler is the futuristic brand with the new technologies but so far there’s nothing from them futuristic and all the planned products (and there are only two of them) are planned to be released by 2025 and 2028! That’s too far ahead. Here’s what I’d do even as late as of now. Minivan goes to Dodge: Hornet and Grand Wagoneer, goes to Chrysler: Fiat Tipo goes to Dodge as a Neon: Jeep Commander goes to Dodge as a Journey , and rebadge the Hornet as a Caliber with serious price adjustment. So we would have Caliber, Journey, Neon, Grand Caravan, Durango, Challenger and Charger. That’s a full Dodge lineup out of nothing. Then Chrysler would have Pacifica, Aspen, and Airflow (rebadged Tonale for now). Boom! Chrysler and Dodge have product while we standby for new models. And new models in the pipeline would be: a new minivan for both Chrysler and Dodge, a Chrysler 300, a Chrysler Crossfire or halo car, a Dodge Caliber crossover, and a few other Dodge and Chrysler models to fill their lineups like even a Maserati super car for a future Dodge Viper. ISNT THIS WHAT STELLANTIS WHAT CREATED FOR?! Tavares just isn’t even trying.😫😫
  • @Slacksfifth
Chrysler should've made the Grand wagoneer and Grand cherokee L part of its group since those are "technically" luxury vehicles.
  • @SimeonToko
They have already crushed me. I keep hoping that some trillionaire or hedge fund would come to the rescue but it is fading.
  • @crabbymilton390
CHRYSLER has built vehicles as nice as anyone else. But they have a very long history of quality problems. I speak from experience from 3 DODGE work vans and my late mom’s JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. Take a generic approach and don’t worry about builders. If one disappears then too bad and there are others.

Sergio Marchionne bowed out on Saturday (July 2018) as one of the auto industry's most demanding and tenacious chief executives, his health in crisis after a career in which he rescued Fiat and Chrysler, two of its most storied brands. YES, SERGIO WORKED HIMSELF TO DEATH TO SAVE FIAT & (prolong) CHRYSLER.
  • I agree with you Jon its sad that Stellantis may chop Chrysler of the 8 mainstream American brands that are left Chrysler is the 6th oldest founded 1925 in order of founding goes Buick 1899 Cadillac 1902 Ford 1903 Chevrolet 1911 Lincoln 1917 Chrysler 1925 Dodge 1928 etc. my late maternal grandfathers 2nd wife had a 1997 Chrysler Sebring JXI convertible when I was a teenager late 90s/early 2000s Amethyst purple/sandstone tan Upholstery/soft top
  • @adrianmonk4440
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye. There is both Sadness & some Inevitabilty in that. Spreadsheets, Sales, & Stock Prices dont lie.

Back in the 80's I remember asking my Dad why he refused to buy Dodge Trucks, he told me he could get brake pads for his 'Chevy' for $10 but a Dodge would be $25 or something akin to that. Then some time later I go to a shop with him that the mechanic was his friend, and he was chastizing how expensive parts for a Diesel Ram HD was. So the older generation seemed to have the mindset Dodge's were just more expensive to maintain..... Now pretty much everybody short of fanboys perception is overpriced unreliable and even Dangerous junk. Just look at the articles about that Dodge Cummin's putting itself into Reverse at highway speeds, and the Fed's now investigating safety issues. I honestly can't see Chrysler/Dodge surviving without government bailouts. I own a 2018 Ram Promaster I turned into a camper and adore that thing, and I've loved the Ram Trucks since the days of the "Dodge Ram" days. I won't be sad to see them go, because I'm furious how they have been turned into expensive low quality products to line Stellantis's pocketbooks.
  • @onlyme112
Jon, thanks for the heads up. I had no idea that Chrysler was on the chopping block. But I can't think of anything that would make me want to buy a Chrysler at this point.
  • I'm afraid Chrysler as a brand may be on the way out. The Pacifica minivan has been the same since it's release in 2017, and not much has changed. It is true the Dodge Hornet is literally an Alfa Romeo in disguise.
