Rain, sun, thunder, clouds, there are a lot of different weather types. But how do they all work and what are their effects? This video explained everything you need to know.

And this video already has a correction, or rather an omission. It turns out that path can also cover a ride, in the same way that scenery can. Thanks to @FolgoreCZ for asking about it! I also quickly tested if ride tracks work and they do not.

I'm incredibly excited to watch 27 minutes about weather mechanics in an almost 22 year old game
  • @darkridge
The irony of guests not wanting to ride a waterslide while it's raining because they don't want to get wet.

Okay, as a coaster enthusiast irl, the station brakes failing more often in the rain is a great detail. A lot of older wooden coasters will completely shelter their brake runs because rain makes them slick and thus unable to slow the trains down.

The amount of details is staggering in this old ass game and the more I learn about it the more mindblowing it is that only one person coded all of this. And in Assembly which is ridiculous in itself

suddenly people have become very aware that there are only 8 months in RCT games
  • @Giondi
"Guests won't ride unsheltered rides because they're little wusses who are afraid to get wet." Well, that and all the explosions.
  • @kanrakucheese
The hottest possible temperature in RCT2, even for a desert, is considered a cool day in the American south. This game really was made by a Brit!

I'd love if some of those myths could be implemented in open rct2. Hot weather making guests thirstier and more likely to ride water rides, etc.

12:48 Giving everyone the PTSD to Agoraphobia and Claustrophobia crashing from brakes failures in RCT1

JESUS the game is nearly 25 years old and is still one of the most complex tycoon games out there...

The fact that they included sujeonggwa (수정과) in rollercoaster tycoon 2, in 2002, is amazing. It is one of many types of Korean tea, it's popular but quite old fashioned, and it's not something that people in Korea drink that often. It's such a weirdly specific thing for Chris Sawyer to have known about.

14:30 i wanna clarify something here. A large “tail” on a launched coaster like displayed is unnecessary. A launched coaster with a brakes failure will not allow the train to fly through the station. Instead, the coaster will attempt to launch the train again. This means that there only needs to be enough track for the launch system to slow, catch, and launch the train for it to not crash. The launch system’s ability to stop the train is significantly weaker than the station brakes. Remember that trains with guests on them carry more momentum, so the tail should be about 1 track length longer than it takes to stop an empty train. A good rule of thumb would be to ensure that there is just over half your train’s length of spare track behind the last car when stopped at the station.

At some point, Marcel will find out how humans work and make a definitive video about that.

I swear when I was a kid I always felt that the brakes failure happened more often in the rain or during thunderstorms. Pleasantly surprised to find out that WAS the case.

"11c (51f) or lower is cold, 12c (53f) - 20c (68f) degrees is medium, and 21c (70f) degrees and up is hot" yup this game was definitely made by a brit
  • thunderstorms never happening in may, june or july is a crazy alternate universe I wanna live in.

I have some questions about sloped paths - do they have any impacts? * do guests get tired more quickly? * is a sloped path longer than a flat one? * does it affect guest's speed? Or is it purely a cosmetic thing?
  • @ajlynch91
Euthanasia Coaster but it rains is really good value!
