Sometimes making your friend put on sunglasses turns into one of the longest fistfights in movie history. In this classic scene from John Carpenter's They Live, Nada (Rowdy Roddy Piper) needs his friend Frank (Keith David) to see the truth about the aliens who rule the world. But when Frank resists, things get punchy. Real punchy. Contains violence!

Synopsis:
They influence our decisions without us knowing it. They numb our senses without us feeling it. They control our lives without us realizing it. They live. Horror master John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) directs this heart-pounding thriller. Aliens are systematically gaining control of the earth by masquerading as humans and lulling the public into submission. Humanity's last chance lies with a lone drifter who stumbles upon a harrowing discovery - a unique pair of sunglasses that reveal the terrifying and deadly truth.

Roddy Piper - the world's most persistent Ray Ban salesman

I love that one interview with the director: "Did you ever consider shortening the fight scene?" "FUCK no"
  • @rlam4648
Can we all appreciate the fact that Keith David threw the money into the box with dead accuracy from like 20 feet away????
  • @warrenpeace8304
He cared about him enough to fight him just so that he could know the truth. That's a real friend right there
  • The thing I loved about this scene is the escalation. They're both relatively clean clothed and fresh faced, and they start out fighting with classic fisticuffs, but once their endurance is spent and they've laid enough of a beating on each other, they resort to fighting dirty, clawing at the eyes, kneeing the balls, crawling all over each other. It feels like a real fight. By the end of it they're both covered in sweat, their clothes are dirtied and they just look fucked up. Not only that, but there's no music either, and the camera doesn't shake: everything is clear. The scene is entirely focused on the visceral fight. Also Keith David chucking that money into Roddy's box at the start was slick.

When Rowdy laughs at the bottle break is just perfect. Gets me every time.
  • @ludeman
This fight represents how hard it is to wake the people closest to you
  • @ronedward3660
That was the old school way of waking people up from the Matrix.
  • @zer0deaths862
The most impressive thing about this fight was the glasses staying intact.
  • @AugustusSeeley
Best fight scene in cinematic history. Rest in peace Roddy Piper. We miss you.
  • @Coronaboii88
Before The Matrix, this was the original “Wake Up” movie.
  • @StealthDonut1
This scene is representative of how hard it is to wake me up in the morning.
  • @davsny5
"I'm trying to save you and your family's lives." "You couldn't even save your own!" Love that line for some reason.
  • @TACAV
This fight is like trying to cancel your Sirius XM subscription with their "customer service".
  • @spongeaang98
Sucks that Piper didn't act more. He was actually pretty convincing and believable in this film most than most athletes that act ever are.
  • @gregkulig1658
This movie is even more relevant today than it was 35 years ago
  • @anobu88
All throughout the scene I’m like “DAMNIT, JUST PUT THE GLASSES ON!!”
