Published 2024-06-17
Fox Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt sits down with Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian in this episode of The Joel Klatt Show: Big Noon Conversations. The Longhorns coach reflects on what he learned from his two coaching mentors that both stepped away from the sport this offseason – Nick Saban and Pete Carroll – and reveals what he believes was the key to their incredible success. The two also discuss the commonality they share as they discuss sobriety and how being vulnerable in his own life has impacted Sarkisian’s culture-building within his program. Coach Sark is such a perfect personality fit for Texas
  • @TexasSiege
Sobriety is about giving up one thing for everything whereas addiction is about giving up everything for thing
  • This interview shines a light on Sark being an incredibly dynamic coach, and an even better human being.
  • @soxfan1045
Wow. Coach Sark is so genuine. I can see why young men would run through a wall for him.
  • Sark is such a class act. Its no surprise that his players speak so highly of him.
  • Thank you Joel for sharing your own journey with sobriety. Celebrating 1.5 years sober myself. Great conversation with coach Sark and loved the culture of vulnerability stuff. Great as always! Looking forward to the next one!

This interview was amazing. Goes way beyond the game of football. Teaching vulnerability is key to learning about yourself and becoming the best human you can be. Great job @CoachSark and the rest of his staff. 🤘🤙

Full disclosure, I’m a Michigan fan. Much respect to Coach Sark for taking that Texas program and focusing it in the way he has. Of course I’m hopeful my boys can beat the doors off his Longhorns when they come to our place this fall, but regardless of how that turns out, it’s a real privilege to host Texas. On a more important note, thank you for mentioning sobriety, and personal struggles that transcend sports. Our lives and how live before God, ourselves, and our loved ones is so much more important and significant than anything that takes place on a football field. Best to both of you in your recoveries.

I'm from the east coast and I firmly believe that Texas has the best coaching staff in the country right now.

Sark speaking to his team each year to tell the story of his struggles with addiction, maintaining sobriety, and the work its taken to find both personal and professional redemption is a great example of modeling both personal accountability and humility. It’s far beyond just football. That’s an outstanding role model for young men. He seems to be the right fit for Texas and not surprised we’re seeing them becoming more successful. Can’t wait to see them compete week to week in the SEC.
  • @PoolPartyPapi
