  • Why do I feel you made this for me, now 85, having restarted at 80. Thank you for your generous videos.

Two things that have stood out for me: (1) For introverts, the solitude you can achieve when drawing is restorative in such important ways, whether you're in a quiet, comfortable room or a lightly trafficked park or wild space, your drawing is soft conversation between only you and your subject. (2) Drawing is more compact at home and more portable out and about than any other art form, so it's as unobtrusive as you wish it to be at home and can tag along with you wherever you go. It's always ready when you are.
  • 52, I went back to drawing & painting at 50 after 35yrs of being mom to 4 amazing kids. I'm now at university doing a fine art degree and having the most amazing yet challenging time of my life.
  • i'm 68 and just started ,love it and a Beautiful way to enjoy the day.
  • I'm 75 and started drawing and watercolor 3:years ago and it is so fun and has opened up a new world of perception. I see so much more, show things are put together, how shadow and light highlight each other, how things grow, what things actually look like. It is all amazing and entertaining!

Reading some of the other Comments, I may have found my corner to hang out. I'll be 71 in a few weeks. I find your videos instructional and inspiring, so I Subscribed. The sample drawing in this video is quite intimidating for a beginner, so I may have to peruse your videos to find a more simple place to start my journey.

It's funny that I ran into this video. I didn't realize there were so many of us out here that's started all over again at a later age. After getting sidetracked over 20 years ago, I started drawing again just last year at the age of 48. It took me a while to quit fighting it, but I've finally settled into the process of awakening everything I learned back in college. Thanks for the inspiring video! It gives me more fuel to keep going until I finally achieve my goal to publish my own manga series.
  • Rediscovered art at 50 and love it! I feel no preassure To be ”good”, I just enjoy the process!

I was 50 when I realized I can draw. Your videos are very helpful and encouraging. But there aren't just yours to watch. Once I open the laptop I start wasting tons of time. It's sooo easy to fall into the trap of just watching tutorials on how to draw and to forget that we learn far more if we spend that time by actually learning to draw by doing it. Since I have minimiced my time on social media I have really improved so much! And all the printouts of online tutorials haven't helped me one bit. It's unbelievable how much time and paper I have wasted for social media and online tutorials ... .
  • 55 year old here always wanted to learn how to draw and never did. Few weeks ago I came into the realization that I was going to die without knowing how to draw and that scared the heck out of me. Learning thru YouTube and the library books. Just figured out what HB B & H pencils mean 😅 today finally picked up a pen. No eraser oh boy!! Lol I say do it if you’re anything like me never too late to start I already feel so much better in general. Can’t believe I drew a couple things already that look nice.

I started drawing at 53, I’m now 58. I try to draw every day if I can even if it’s just a small thumbnail sketch. I started drawing simple subjects looking at capturing shape and form then shading. Each week I would challenge myself to something out of the comfort zone. It takes time to learn and develop the skills. The biggest help I had was videos such as this or ones showing techniques. Most importantly make it fun. I soon found out art was a great stress buster…..

Yes, I`m older and I`m happy to start now with drawing 😊
  • The problem with our youth is thinking that everything needs to happen today, right now (I'm 28). It's a toxic bubble that surrounds thoughts and makes you think you're too old for certain things, so we sabotage ourselves and give up on our dreams. What a shame. I am so grateful that there are people like you. That encourages us to realize the truth and go after what we want because life only stops even when we die, physically or emotionally. That's why God, or any other force you believe, makes people like you. So thank you, of all my heart. Your videos have helped me a lot along with some books (How to draw, Framed Perspective, etc), I wasn't able to apply perspective. Now I am improving and understanding the technique, and the bonus: enjoying the process.

One of the things I used to help me start drawing was #Inktober. It forced me to draw in ink rather in pencil. I was horrible in the beginning but with practice and networking with other artists to help me learn what I was doing wrong. I'm so happy I started. Love this channel, too!

I'm just turning 60 and really want to learn to get better at drawing. I doodle all the time. But I really want to draw. thank you so much for the help.

Me here at 27 yrs feeling like a moron, seeing all the people here 50years old + starting their art journey. I thought I was too old to start 😂 I've been playing drums and guitar since I was 8. It felt weird and like a waste of time to swap to drawing, but im excited. Thank you for the amazing content
  • Hi Steven. I've just started drawing, I'm 77. Talked into it by my daughter who is artistic, i haven't drawn since school. She's also got me doing watercolour, I'm finding your stuff really useful. Thanķs.
  • @danpost4755
Very encouraging Stephen! Similar story here. Lots of art up through high school, then life happened. Now, at 56, I am picking it up again. I'm really enjoying your channel and content.
  • Thanks for the encouraging video. I started my art journey last January upon retiring. I began with a drawing class from my local art museum on zoom and have continued on with classes in acrylics and watercolors as well as drawing. I get so much joy from creating new drawings and paintings. My classes, and YouTube (which is where I found your channel) offer me so many opportunities to learn more about the skills I am practicing in class and provide me with new challenges every week. Thank you for this and your other videos. They are much appreciated!
  • Thank you Stephen. Your kind words of understanding and encouragement is welcome. Everyday is a school day, from an older person to another. 👍
