WATCH THE USHER UPDATE:    • Usher Halftime Show Review (Tier List...

This video is a supercut of my two previous halftime show tier lists made in the summer of 2022. It's updated to include 2023's halftime with Rihanna, as well as couple of tier adjustments that differ from the original edits.

TIER ADJUSTMENT REASONING-
U2 from B to A: I mentioned the heavy emotion of their performance, but placing it in B tier doesn't do the impact of it enough justice. Revisiting it, I can understand why some hold it as their favorite halftime show of all time.

Lady Gaga from A to S: I basically made the entire argument for it to be placed in S tier and then placed it just short at the top of A. Originally my thinking was that there's enough of a divide between Beyoncé's show and Gaga's, but that just isn't the case. Both are superb in different ways.

I can't contest the placement for MJ, but I do think he deserves special recognition for singlehandedly changing the entire format of the halftime shows.

MJ standing for 90 seconds simply puts him in s-tier. The man had aura.
  • Travis Scott falling in auto tune is one of the funniest things I've ever seen and I'm 42.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I was alone in a Mexican restaurant when Prince played his halftime show, which they had on a big screen. I was totally blown away and will always remember that moment.

4:56 "with Michael Jackson standing there, literally doing nothing, and the crowd still had more energy than every previous show combined" and then, MJ turned his head. I was in Iowa feeling the electricity
  • No one mentions how The Weeknd managed to pull it off with all those restrictions. He even spent money from his pocket to create a stage that would make the transitions between every song. He got creative since everyone was asked to wear a mask and he made it fit with the face surgery denunciation thing he did on the AMAS. After that, you can like his music or not but he put so much effort to make something good and create a lot of energy within the stadium even though it was almost empty. Props to him for that!

I was tending bar at a packed pub during the 2002 Super Bowl, and let me tell you, when Bono ripped open his jacket to reveal the American flag, there wasn't a dry eye in the joint. I'll never forget it. The most emotional of halftime shows.

I still hold that "Weird Al" Yankovic headlining, and bringing in a bunch of the artists he parodied to sing along, would make for a killer halftime show.

Rihanna was never the kind of performer that Beyoncé is, or even Lady Gaga is. It makes sense that her hits would carry the show more than any elaborate choreography. It's hard to have a bad show with all those hits. So for what it was, it was fine. And the visual of her on the platform was really cool, so bonus points for that from me.
  • The Dre/Snoop/Eminem/Kendrick halftime told the story of the last 30 years of west coast hip hop through performance, outfit, and set design choices in a way that I've never really seen before.

The “step back from the guacamole dip” line should be the intro to every Super Bowl halftime show as it cuts in from commerical

"Stevie Wonder is blind and even he moved around more than she did" got me laughing way too hard
  • @faris1498
You knew what the people wanted and you came back. Love the growth of moving GAGA to S tier where she belongs
  • @NurKurt2706
MJ had the most iconic performance ever. He's just standing and ppl go wild. Legend. He was the artist that created what half time show is now.

this is my comfort video. im not a football fan, but for some reason, i just come back to watch this video every so often and it calms me down. i think it has something to do with your voice, or the calm, yet comedic way you present your video essays. either way, good on you!
  • How MJ is not in the S tier when he’s the reason all these artists are able to do elaborate performances at the Super Bowl is beyond me. He’s also the only artist to get paid for it(went to his charity) and had 134 million viewers which was half of the country’s population at the time.
  • @BrodyEllis111
Dude at 21:51 Springsteen telling us to step away from the guacamole and chicken fingers is unbelievably hype
  • @christiang4497
Putting Bruno in B tier is a crime. Chili peppers are the only ones keeping him out of S tier category for me.
  • @clovertran
Easily one of the best reviews I’ve watched. Your sense of humor being incorporated into this video was my highlight! Too many great remarks 😆 If only you do this for other shows too !
