Back when USC's defense was just as exciting as their offense

'04 Virginia Tech was a heck of a good team - had it not been for a FG that missed by an inch at the end of the NC State game their only 2 losses would have been to the 2 teams that ended the year undefeated (USC and Auburn) and both were close, competitive games.

The Hokies gave the Trojans a very good game. They kept Bush bottled up on run plays, but somehow failed to cover him on three pass plays. Hokies beat themselves with penalties that might have turned into points otherwise. USC's defense came through in the second half, keeping Randall behind the line of scrimmage. He was dangerous when he started running, but that only happened in the first half. I think USC tightened their coverage and put more pressure on him. Good video. I like these no huddle game highlights. They tell more of the story. I'm a USC alum and love my Trojans, but the homer videos that just show the standout plays by the Trojans, don't really give you that sense of how the game really went. This was USC's perfect season.

LenDale was a beast 💪🏿 he did all the heavy lifting then Bush come in and run around everyone. This was a great team

Love the "neutral" field.... Fight On
  • This was during Sam, Clover, Alex, Britney, and Sabrina Spellman's 12th Grade Senior Year in High School 2004-05.

vt goes to the national championship again if that pass interference call isnt called
  • @markd.5471
I forgot how much hype (92,000 fans at a neutral site) this USC team was already generating (and deserving).

The 2004 USC team was a GREAT team that played like a very good team basically the whole year up until the NC game were we gave one of the greatest beat downs of all-time for a title game. The 04 Trojans defense was all-time great but there offense always seemed a bit underachieving to me. The 05 Trojans offense was all-time great but there defense was below average, to put it nicely. If 04 SC's defense combined with 05 SC's offense, you would have a top 3-5 team in college football history.
  • Va tech gave SC a hell of an wffort ....norm chow was genius adding that middle screen dump off play...to get the ball to the Heisman winner anyway he could ...#5:did the rest....va tech and every team was lucky rhat usc had their go to .unstoppable wide receiver. school aetting record beaker( better than lynn swann johnny morton keyshaunv bob Chandler..) mike williams ...was rules inellible because he declared for nfl draft...then repaid money ad undeclared a short time after....ncaa waited until 15 min before kickoff for ruling.....tell me that their wasnt a antii usc feeling going on w the ncaa ( led by sec conf foljs sick of usc dynasty )

I remember this game. First game of the season and USC looked jet lagged and made VT look like a Super Bowl contender. VT thought they were the cats meow. Maybe for 2 quarters. Then POOF! Like a deflated balloon they go bye bye. USC too much for the hillbillies. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 That Bush catch over the shoulder was the nail. VT started looking tiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrred. And that pass interference call on VT in the third? Definitely pass interference. No doubt about it.
  • I was so young when I watched this game, but I'll never forget that offensive pass interference call. Weakest call I've ever seen. Swayed the momentum of the entire game.
  • @hbathletictraining
If VT had a better offensive scheme I think that they would have been able to pull this one out.
  • The title should read Virginia tech vs college footballs first pro team
  • @dougdozier8782
VT got screwed in the 3rd quarter on that bogus offensive pass interference call. This USC team was no better than the Auburn team that year. Auburn had more talent
  • @olrascal5569
love how the refs used to explain the penalties so vividly.

Wish I could watch these games for the first time at my age now. I was in 8th grade when this time was on fire, in total awe of the offense. Which is easy to do I guess, just never appreciates the defense as much. Maybe the best college football team ever
