I really don't understand what Disney is doing currently. It feels like the harder their movies fail the more they double down on them and the concepts behind them. It's like they're not even trying to learn.

Disney is doomed. Those in charge are trying to impress investors, NOT customers. They’re determined to do everything EXCEPT tell a good story.
  • @vanhoras3082
Their newest game project sounds like the most by-committee designed, anti-consumer, trend-chasing, and already-outdated idea I've ever heard.
    Can't imagine that backfiring...

I honestly feel like Disney forgot how to make a good movie. My biggest complaint about them is how tf did they mess up Star wars?? They were literally set up to build off such an awesome universe but instead just made 3 shitty movies with almost zero research and building off the exact same thing in the originals

Disney seem to think they can do anything in editing, from completely changing the plots of movies to turning a series into a feature film, then Surprised Pikachu Face when audiences don't like the mangled results.

It's telling that the question of 'How do we tell better stories/provide our customers a better experience?' was nowhere to be found in this strategy isn't it? 🤔It feels like they genuinely believe the only reason their shows/movies didn't sell is because they didn't peddle them right instead of the reality that these movies and shows just havn't been very good for a while and people were just not enjoying them.

Is there a more effective turn-off than billing your project a "metaverse"
  • Disney has driven two of their largest IPs into the ground with Star Wars and Marvel. With Pixar not doing well now either. They seem to way overspend on movie and TV production. Until they sort out the underlying reason their studios are overspending and delivering bad products it will continue to sink.

Lets try to say this with business words: For the last few years Disney did not care about their core audience or their Whale audience ( those that spend a lot of money outside of movies for merch). Rather they focused on gaining additional customers of a special kind that are hard to create product for and spend less per person. Meanwhile this alienated previous customers that were thought to be loyal. In short: Stop selling Salad in a Steak House!

Bob Iger was the one that caused all these problems for Disney. Bringing him back basically guaranteed that they would continue
  • @Grassdia
I think whenever people here the word “Disney” now, people just want to avoid it.
  • Iger has led the company for so many years brining him back is just bringing old tricks and the person, who got them into the current trouble. The man needs to learn to let go and retire
  • @noskes1
I mean, they can make the best buisnes decisions, being godlike in marketing etc, but if thier new movies/content wont be better quality then they still will be losing.
  • @KindredEmotions
This explains why they’re bringing the 97 version of X-Men back. Every company falls back on nostalgia when they desperately need to get out and stay out of the red.

Unfortunately if this works, the only message it’s going to send is that they can take any risks schilling garbage that they want as long as they have that Plan B in their back pocket.

Blackwell sent out letter to investors about putting 3 of their people on the board. Among the people they highlighted ones past experiences in NFT's was a highlight another with AR/VR. Along with Epic it looks like their gaming is going to stay a mess, especially if these people get on the board.

Imagine thinking it was good to point out someones history with NFT's
  • @giovlms
They're an ESG focused, entertainment company. As long as they're pleasing investors instead of their customers, they'll tank.
  • @userre85
Just bring back Club Penguin. All your sins will be washed away.
  • Disney and Amazon is learning that its too heavy a lift to build a catalogue of shows large enough to keep customers occupied...
  • @TheDestillers
Disney will end up like Blizzard, some investors come in with a boat load of money and some get rich quick ideas, they then proceed to choke the brand to death until it no longer generates a profit and all the creatives has left or is fired, and the brand is just a sad shell of a once was giant.
